To think apologising for spelling mistakes in a post is over the top

We're all on phones, gadgets, laptops and the like. We might be typing and feeding a bub with the other hand. Lets hope no one is driving and typing...... But please, AIBU to think that no one cares if you get some letters wrong or do a typo. Stop clogging up threads with apologies.

I agree OP, unless an autocorrect has made gibberish of a post (eg "not" for "now"), or it's a post on the subject of correct SPAG, I grit my teeth and let them go, it strikes me as solipsistic and insecure to correct every little typo.

I agree with the OP and was thinking this very thing yesterday. If it's a case of the phone inserting an entirely wrong word to the point of the meaning being obscured, then it makes sense. But every little spelling error? It just causes more bother than necessary.

I tried to stop - but just couldn't sit on my hands that awful night I typed "their" when I meant "there". I have stopped correcting my own mistakes in bold though. That's my compromise.

yanbu - spelling mistakes don't bother me in the slightest and its tiresome to read corrections.

I do love a few good funny autocorrects though and the horrified correction that follows

I can spell and use grammar.
But, sometimes I make typos, lots of them. It doesn't help that my keyboard is wireless and seems to enjoy missing out odd random letters, every now and then.
I do correct tham as I go along, sometimes , but most times I am too caught up in the moment of putting my views across that I just don't care about spelling and such.

Sometimes autocorrect on my iPhone will insert errors into a sentence and I feel I need to correct it in another post (if I haven't noticed before posting) so people don't think I'm an idiot.

Every now and then I feel the need to let people know that (eg) it's not "persay" it's "per se" purely on the grounds that it's better to hear it from a random internetter than from your senior manager checking a vital letter you've just sent. Anyone can misspell or mistype something but sometimes people are simply under a misapprehension that nobody's ever bothered to enlighten them on. I wouldn't bother if their posts were otherwise awash with mispellings and txtspk, or it might have been a typo.

Someone once used in conversation the correct pronunciation of the word 'reprise' shortly after I'd said 'repr-EYE-ze'.

I am grateful for the correction but there is a small part of me that will forever think of him: 'cunt.'

Not as bad as the woman who laughed out loud when I said: 'gam-OOT' instead of 'GAMM-ut'.

I spend most of my time on MN on special needs boards. I do sometimes venture over to AIBU though.

My perception is that there are certain traditions and sayings on MN - naice ham, LTB, correcting spelling mistakes, , that some feel the need to keep up and some (me included) don't give fuck.

I make typos sometimes... who cares.
