AIBU?

To think breast feeding is causing my BO?

Hello,

I am normally a very cold blooded person, the sort who wears a jumper in July. However, when pregnant with DC3, I got the raging overheating lurgy and was boiling hot from day 1.

He is now 4 mo and I still haven't cooled down. I am so so so hot ALL OF THE TIME and just can't cool down. It is HORRIBLE!

I sleep on top of the covers and have to have all the windows open all the time. I CAN'T STAND IT!!

The only other time I am this hot is when I have my period which is what makes me think it's hormonal. I also have terrible BO when I get my period and I am getting it again now. I've heard from a few people that they also suffered from over heating and BO when breast feeding.

Any thoughts? How do I make it stop (the heat/BO not the BF!).

Have you tried a fairly strong deodorant e.g. mitchum. Could you try just an anti persirant? Failing that then you might need to see your GP.

Are you drinking any herbal teas for breast feeding? Can't remember what but one of the ingredients made me stink.

Could you be perimenopausal? How old are you?

Bf always made me overheat. Try the 48-hour deodorant? I had to give up on my normal antiperspirant and the 48-hour stuff worked a treat.

I know how you feel and offer you Thanks Thanks
Through both my pregnancies and 2 separate years of b/fing, I have been TOO HOT!
Finished feeding the youngest about 2 months ago and it is starting to improve but I'm often still such a Sweaty Betty.
I'm sure it's down to hormones. I'm not having any more kids and I can't wait to be hormone free.
Sorry I can't offer any actual help, except I used to use simple face wipes to freshen up during the day. Blush
They are gentle and good for a speedy mop up during nap time, making me feel a bit better or the rest of the day. Smile
Good luck keeping cool.

Hormone-free nails? Ha! Am all of 18 months post-bf'ing and yup....here come the perimenopausal symptoms.

Thank chaps!

I've had a quick google and apparently it's very common to be mega hot and super smelly when breast feeding - it's the hormones!

I'm off to buy some stronger deodorant!

I switched to triple dry when I was bf and am still using it 8 years later! :-)

Dd was born in October and all through the winter when she was feeding round the clock I was so hot and sweaty. I don't think I ever linked it to breastfeeding though. Even now (she's 10 months and just feeding morning and bedtime) I'm warmer than I was before I got pregnant.

Oh I had the same problem - I found drinking lots and lots of water helped the sweatiness - perhaps being well hydrated helped make it less pungent?! And a mini deodorant in the changing bag!

I did not connect the two (more sweaty and BF). But I do not think I stink (I hope). Will keep an eye on that, thank you OP.

I don't want to ever stop breastfeeding. It's the only time I don't sweat. Strange how it affects people differently.

Yes poocatcher I agree! I smelt like stale milk for weeks no matter how often I showered- and I'd wake for night feeds sweating from head to foot. IN DECEMBER!

I used to wake up drenched in sweat after having my 2nd dd. My hair even smelt of sweat, it was awful. I used an aloe Vera deodorant to neutralise the smell & then a regular one on top.

My feet used to sweat! During a feed the soles of my feet would be drenched.

Yes me too. It's those pesky hormones.

Yanbu and all that.

I had terrible hot flushes after having DS. I couldn't drink a cup of tea or coffee without flushing bright red and sweating. YANBU.

Me too! More sweaty but not more smelly thankfully. I've started using crystal deodorant (Pitrok) after showers and then my usual deodorant on top. Carrying the baby and holding her close when feeding doesn't help matters, and it's summer... fingers crossed things will improve soon!

Oh thank god!! I've been so worried about this 'smell' I've got thy even after a shower I still smell and the SWEAT! I've never known anything like it! I'm actually longing for winter. I can't stand this heat I'm literally dripping it's so embarrassing.
Thank you all for making me feel better about it and knowing its not me.

I wake up dripping in sweat and as soon as she latches on, day or night, my temp rises and I'm sweating. I thought we weren't meant to use anti-perspirant when bf'ing?
I also leak, a lot, so stink of sweat and milk. But DD seems to like the smell so it's all ok with me Blush

BabyMamaDrama · 26/08/2013 00:20

WTH. I formula feed yet I still have suffered the sweatiness after having DD. And the smell coming from boobs.

Report
CitrusyOne · 26/08/2013 06:48

Those who are thinking about turning the heating down in winter- this may work, but as Dd was born in October and dp is even more pfb than mhenput ours on something like 21 degrees constantly- no wonder I was sweaty!
