AIBU?

To be getting really frustrated with job hunting?

Until recently, I had 3 jobs; job 1 - Saturday and Sunday, total of 12 hours, job 2 - Thursday 1pm til 8pm, job 3 - Monday to Friday 9.30am til 11.30am. These three jobs together made me the equivalent of a full time job at minimum wage and fitted in nicely with regards to childcare etc.

Job 1 has now been made redundant, so I am searching for something else to replace it. The other 2 jobs are fairly flexible, and I could change the shifts if need be, but would need to be able to give, particularly employer 2, a set shift with plenty of notice.

Every single bloody job I've seen so far says something along the lines of, "12 hours per week, to be worked on a flexible basis, between 7am and 9pm Monday to Sunday", which makes it very hard to fit around other jobs/childcare etc. I am flexible when I can work, as job 2 just wants one late shift a week, not bothered which day as there's plenty of staff to shift around, and job 3 just wants me for 2 hours a day, not bothered which 2 hours, but I would need to know!

Just having a rant really, as it seems so hard to find something with set hours! Is this how everywhere operates nowadays? AIBU to just want set days/hours, or am I being picky?

And bloody sodding zero hour contracts... What's that all about?? I just want to be able to pay my bills! Goodness knows how people will fare when this new Universal Credit comes in when everyone must be in full time work, yet a job with guaranteed hours is so hard to come by! Grrrr!!!

Last year when I was looking for a job it was so difficult as i needed to be able to work around dp (no childcare) but all the jobs said must be flexible. I could be flexible for 4 days of the week and done any hours but the 3 days dp worked I needed to have off. I dont know why it can't be like it used to be and just set hours for each job.

I'm noticing a fair few job at almost full time hours, like 30 hours. I'm guessing they want full time effort but to not have to pay for it.

OP could you not do all your hours for one job if you found one you can fit round children? Obv this is pretty impossible though

Yes I could, and I'm not ruling out full time, but I actually quite like job 3 and would prefer to keep it if possible as they let me take ds to work with me etc. Plus I worked full time all through the summer last year and it was a bloody nightmare if I'm honest! I have no family locally and holiday clubs run 10-3 with no childminders doing pick up or drop off, so I had to pay a childminder 8-6 every day, making it completely pointless going to work!

Other reason I quite like having multiple jobs is if I get made redundant from one, I still have an income from the others as oppose to being completely unemployed!

I've applied for a couple of things today, both didn't specify hours, so we shall see!
