AIBU?

to want to boycott fecking Ebay!

fucking fuckhead bollocking bitch twat Ebay arsehole cunts! Angry

I've just found out that from September they are going to change final value fees!

Ebay announcement:
Final value fees will be charged based on the combined value of the item listed plus postage.
For example, if an item sells for £20 with postage cost of £4, the final value fee will be charged based on the combined value of £24.

thanks, just great! so first post office increases fess which makes it just ridiculous to try & sell a pair of kids shoes for 99p or so coz cheapest p&p is £5.20.
they take of 10% off of final value at the moment. so If I did that I'd earn 89p (99p-10p)

with new changes they'd charge after 6.29 so here's the math

6.29 - 0.63 (which is the 10% rounded up = 5.66

£5.66 - p&p of 5.20 = 0.46

so that's a whole 46p profit! excellent! I loose almost 50% of profit because of fucking post office fees and new Ebay rules combined!
no fucking way.
I'd rather have a "Boston Tea Party" in the form of burning everything!

great, just fucking great! Angry Angry Angry

that will definitely stop me from trying to list stuff on Ebay!

AIBU to want everyone to stop selling/buying on Ebay until the selling conditions for people like me, who are trying to earn a few quid selling 2nd hand stuff as a "hobby" or part of a decluttering & reduce-reuse-recycle effort, improve or revert back to previous rules?

small businesses will suffer too. it is outrageous IMO

AIBU to be so angry about the PO and Ebay doing this again

BTW does anyone have any ideas how I could sell 2nd hand stuff online for a reasonable profit?

(I expect MNHQ to tweak my post for foul language. but I'm so angry)

I think the problem with eBay these days is its getting more and more geared towards the big businesses that have outlet shops on there. They make eBay thousands every week and most likely will either not notice or not care about the new fees that make a massive difference to the individual sellers like you and me.

I've stopped using eBay unless it's for something big that has to be collected in person.

I try to save up all my stuff and do car boot sales and baby events. Which works out better as when I tell family friends I usually get given their unwanted things too :-)

Ebay's giving me the rage lately as well. I just sold a delicate computer part, packaged it to send it as if it were made of glass. The buyer says it's broken, sends it back. It arrives in such a state where it's obvious the buyer caused the damage (bits torn off and bent out of shape, circuit board corners snapped), and has no idea how to install a plug into a mains socket let alone a motherboard into a computer. Utterly destroyed.

I had proof that I sent it in perfect condition. Pictures of the part, pictures of the part working in my PC.

eBay sided with the twat and I lost £70.

Yanbu. eBay are useless, moneygrabbing arseholes!!!

eBay are rubbish, I tend to use my local buying and selling groups on Facebook, infact I've made 40 pound in two days selling bits on Facebook!

Everyone I know uses the Facebook selling pages now - no fees or postage. I'm a member of 5 all with 3000+ members. I haven't used them to sell yet, but friends who have say they've got rid of a fair bit of stuff.

Also look for local table top sales - less hassle and more local than boot sales usually.

eBay isn't what it used to be. Stuff on there is more expensive now than it is in the shops! I've seen people sell
Primark stuff for £10 more than it costs in the shop! I don't use eBay anymore at all because of the fees. I sold something for £600 and they took my postage as fees >:(

namechange - this change is aimed at private sellers actually, not businesses, sorry if that wasn't clear.

they know exactly who this will effect the worst and that is shameful.

YANBU. I have a feeling Ebay will be much quieter come September.
That or everything will become collection only.

They were probably sick of complaints from buyers about inflated Postage and Packing charges.

That's why I stopped using ebay.

Really easy, ask OH to go to the search bar and type in something to the affect of "items for sale Newark" obviously with your area, then you just like the page or join the group and you can post pics. You do get some time wasters but not too much of an issue if you insist they pick up rather than you deliver. Alot of people arrange to meet at post office etc to avoid giving out their home address which is something to consider.

I think this will lead to more people doing car boot sales or donating more to charity shops as it won't be worth the time it takes for such small amounts of money.

In a way I see their point. Because some people do charge excessive postage to make extra money on this. But I agree that stuff on Ebay is expensive. Latest scam that somebody I know got stung with. Bought something from ebay. Parcel arrived in Amazon box addressed to buyer. Marked as a gift. So buyer makes a few pounds and has never actually even owned the article.

That should be seller makes a few pounds!

I am worrying now after reading your post KirjavaTheCat. DH sold a car part for £90 and is due to post it tomorrow. It is a set of specialist lights that retail at £300 new (we had them on our car for a year before the car was scrapped) so not a cheap part. I am worrying that we will post them off in good condition and the buyer will claim they are broken on arrival or something.
Wish we had done collection only now.
Hubby is thinking of delivering them in person to avoid that, but then we have no proof of delivery do we?
Any ideas anyone?

Don't forget the paypal fees too. Owned by eBay. It's a joke.

I'm selling baby stuff in bundles now before the changes. Free listings this weekend too. Also started using Collect + for posting parcels, cheaper than RM and no need to queue, just drop it off at a local shop (which also has free parking). Fully tracked and higher compensation cover, and so far very reliable.

If my local NCT has a sale this Sept, I'm selling some low value stuff there. No branch chair at the mo so it might not happen. But at least the 30% cut goes to charity and not a faceless corporation.

YANBU. Nickel and diming all the way.

I have tried a couple of my local areas for facebook selling pages and have drawn a blank... only thing I can find is items on gumtree....

Can anyone tell me how you find the facebook selling pages? Thanks!

And yes OP, I think it really doesn't sound worth it to sell on ebay.
It's a shame as I have stockpiled a little collection of stuff to sell but think I will try facebook first if I can.

Report
ZingWidge · 11/08/2013 13:48

yes snowflake I've just been relisting previously unsold stuff while 0 insertion fees are on - that's how I found out!

I'm glad you all agree!

I really want to write to Ebay and tell them to MN version of fuck off! Grin

Probably a dumb and unfair idea but but maybe stick an extra £1 or something onto p&p in order to cover fees.

Iv stopped selling dd clothes on eBay as I can't be bothered with it but have put her shoes up as they are guaranteed sale imo.

I live to buy bits and bobs for dd mainly off there.

I think they're trying to charge on collection - whats this about?

Collection in person

  • Show collection in person option
  • Add a cost for collecting in person

Who is going to pay a fee to go and collect something?

littleprincess you need to refund and get cash on delivery/collection. It is the only safe method for a seller.

If looking for fb selling pages type in your district/area for example
Midlothian selling page covers a wide area.

Or different town too so type in your town selling page or baby stuff, prams and buggies.
