The majority of my friends didn't have them, the ones who did I took gifts for the baby, and helped organise etc. I have now been invited to one by someone I like very much, who is the partner of one of DH's friends, I have no idea if I am meant to take a gift. If so, is it for the mother or the baby and what type of things do you buy?

I could do with help on this too! Have been invited to a baby shower for a member of the family but I've never been to one before so have no idea what or if I'm supposed to take a gift and if so do I buy for the baby or the parents?!

I've been to one before, I totally forgot to get anything so grabbed a spare bottle of champagne on the way out for them to toast the baby with, it seemed to go down alright.

Other people brought mainly small gifts as they wanted to wait till baby was born to give proper gifts, others just brought the proper gifts to the shower. It's a bit of a scam really, making sure you get 2 loads of presents!

Ha, just realised how posh the grabbing a spare champagne bottle makes us sound! We happened to have lots in for 1 occasion, don't always have spare bottles laying around Grin

I was invited to one but was really uncomfortable with the idea of buying presents for the unborn baby. I bought a nice gift for the mum of pamper things, bubble bath etc for after the birth then bought the baby a present once she arrived.

When I went to one I took a gift for the baby to the bany shower, but then when the baby was born I just sent a card.

For me at home ( the states ) these are a regular thing. I didn't think they were that popular here. We take baby gifts, champagne or luxury type gift for the mother. I have in the past given a spa voucher or nice body stuff. I always felt odd taking baby stuff for a baby that hasn't actually been born yet so most of my gifts were for the mother. I also took cake a lot. Cake I find covers most things.

My friend threw one for me in feb, first one I'd ever been to.

Everyone brought gifts which we used to play a 'baby bingo' game. We had to fill out blank bingo sheets with baby things in each box, then as I opened the gifts everyone crossed them off on their cards.

I was overwhelmed by the gifts, it was so lovely of everyone. A lot brought clothes, i also received a travel bottle warmer, photo album, teething rings, nursery rhyme book, baby towels, lamaze toys, blankets, comfort blankets, bibs, a money box, hand impression kit, baby record book, plate/bowl/cutlery set, a nappy cake and a video camera!!

Ask! I went to or for my friend and messages her saying 'I'd really lik to get you something, was there anything you particularly wanted?' She thn replied saying how lovely it was that I was coming and I insisted then she'd love a toy for her baby as she had loads of clothes already. One gorgeous soft rabbit later and we're all happy!

Omg sorry about all the typos
'I went to one for my friend and messaged her saying 'I'd really like'...
She then replies that if i insisted...

Ugh I'll be more careful next time!

I've only ever been to one. Shared the apprehension of buying a gift for the unborn baby. Also planned to buy baby gift once baby arrived. I settled on creating a survival pack for mummy with useful lotions and potions like dry shampoo etc. seemed to go down well!

I have never been to one!

But, I would never take a gift for an unborn so would probably buy some lovely body lotion/bubble bath/ a candle for mum and buy the baby something once it had been born.

Muslins, bubble bombs from lush, chocolates for the Kate night energy and a bucket of vanish for all those stained clothes.
