AIBU?

to think he totally lost his moral high ground

Was standing outside a supermarket yesterday minding my own business, having a cigarette. Was a fair distance from the entrance, standing outwith the 'no smoking allowed here' areas.
A man came by me, about two metres away, and as he walked past he started wafting his hand away and scowling at me - obviously making a point about smoke. He then brought up something from his chest, and spat it onto the ground, on a path where people would be walking, muttered something along the lines of "Fucking smokers. Disgusting".
I shouted Blush after him "Your spitting is just as disgusting as my smoking, mate!"

Fair enough, you don't like smoking, that's your choice, but to really think that spitting on a public path is less disgusting? It really ain't!

(prepares for a flaming from non/anti smokers)

Spitters are worse. You were smoking where it was allowed.

I hate the smell of smoke but would rather walk past someone smoking than see spit on the pavement, or not see it and tread in it and then have gob on my shoe

I really dislike smoking, I really don't like smoking in public places.
But spitting is discussing and revolting and just as bad if not worse than smoking.

I'm not fond of smoking, however, I bloody loathe spitting in the street, it's vile. Yanbu!

Non/anti smoker here, and the guy was a twat. I'd rather inhale some smoke on my way into a supermarket than step in someone's rank phlegm. Urgh.

But I do find it annoying when people smoke outside supermarket entrances. I have severe asthma, and smoke is my biggest trigger and you have no choice but to walk through it if you're going in Sad. It tends to accumulate rather than blow away in those sheltered bits just off the entrance.

In my world people who spit would have their faces rubbed in it.

I couldn't give a shit about people smoking outside. Phlegmers, on the other hand, can fuck right off.

On an equally vile note, I was waiting outside the post office last week and some grotbag started hawking up his lung butter, ready to eject it to the floor. I gave him the full-on teacher death stare and he PICKED it out his mouth with his fingers and flicked it on the floor, looking slightly ashamed. UGH!!!

As an Ex-smoker, he was worse.

You were in a designated area for smoking.

What he did is disgusting, rude, selfish and would make me physically sick there and then (I don't know what, that and vomit is just a trigger for chundering myself)

I'm sure I read someewhere that a city council has decided to start fining people for spitting on the street - I'll try to find it if I can. THAT should be made law - £50 for spitting.

So do I, as a smoker Wink

Glad to hear (so far at least!) people don't think I am BU. I really, really do detest spitting, and the fact that he was basically trying to say he was better than me for spitting rather than smoking? Boke!

I'd happily ban smoking everywhere except inside people's own homes (and yes I'd ban it in gardens too), but even I would prefer to hold my breath and run past a smoker than have tread in phlegm by mistake. He was rude and far more disgusting then you.

There's a law against spitting in public places now?

"There's a law against spitting in public places now?"

Not sure, but if there isn't there should be. It's causing a massive rise in TB and is disgusting and unnecessary.
