AIBU?

Aibu to have had two user names on another site?

I was a member on another chat forum and after been banned a couple of times for "daring" to question moderation or heaven forbid to speak my true opinion, I decided to create two user names, one where I could chat about everyday mundane topics and not have other posters drag up all my more controversial opinions from other more heated threads. Anyway I was quiet outspoken on a thread recently and insisted that I considered parents who let their older children (who has no illness/special needs) have soothers, were guilty of lazy parenting. Not only did they ban my outspoken account but also my normal one.
To be honest the site is pretty crap but there were a few posters on there whom I liked and we had a few ongoing discussions which I miss.

Anyway Aibu to think my quiet persona should have been left alone?

Depends on the rules of the forum. Here it would be no big deal, but you can have as many name changes as you want, so long as you don't sock puppet.

Perhaps over there you're only allowed one?

cacamilis I know EXACTLY where and what you are talking about. they did the same to me. I don't bother with it anymore. so boring. here is way better.

A lot of forums have rules that people can't have more than one account in order to stop just what you did - people using one account to break the rules knowing they have a safe account.

thing is this site has rules for few posters and different ones for different posters. it is not fairly moderated. guess that's what happens when regular posters are mods. they look out for their friends. don't give them a second thought.

Well other posters regularly mention having a couple of user names, one for more personal topics or to avoid been recognised so it doesn't seem to be a problem unless you are outspoken.
Anyway I am not going back this time, it seems on there that when someone posts about a problem they are not asking for advice but want everyone else to validate their opinion and if you dare not to you get lambasted for not been supportive.

Flickered are regular posters mods on rc? That would explain a lot.

If it was BC then it's against the terms of use so I'm not particularly sympathetic.

Even here, when people "legally" have multiple "personalities", there are rules about how you use them - both explicit and unwritten.

How do you know what forum she's talking about Fluckered?

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 13:43

Mm Harry, did you mean RC, I don't know what BC is?
Well I think I followed the rules, I didn't name call or abuse just gave my opinion, this was the same on all threads I posted on. I and a few others are able to hold a debate without resorting to insults, it seems this is not appreciated. Other posters insulted myself and others who disagreed with the general consensus and resorted to a lot of name calling in order to get their opinion across. This didn't bother me and I wouldn't ever consider reporting it or making a big deal of it, but I find it strange that a forum bans users who have a different opinion. Surely they should only intervene if things get abusive?

because of the thread she mentioned and the way she described the forum. I read it at times. just look for the thread with a post count of more than 10 and its usually a fight lol. though sometimes that can be misleading as the post count goes crazy when a steam mop is being discussed. riveting stuff I tell you.

Which site? My nosiness neeeeeeds fulfilling. Needs, I tell thee.

caca they are not consistent. so therefore can never moderate efficiently. they do not apply the rules across the board.

I wont say unless OP does as its her thread. though someone already mentioned the initials of the site. be beware as could cause this thread to be deleted as doubt bashing another forum is allowed.

If those are the rules of the site, then yes ABU.

If you are banned you are banned.

But if the rule is that you can only have one login, you can only have one login.

Fluckered lol, steam mops and child benefit threads always get a rise.
The forum is rollercoaster.ie an Irish site what I liked about it initially was that you could discuss local topics, but heaven help anyone who dares to hold a different opinion, all hell breaks loose.

You are allowed to talk about other sites on MN.

Although slagging off other sites always gets on my wick.

If you have a problem with another site, take it up with them.

but the rule isn't that you cant have more than one login. there are no limits as far as I am aware. you can not name change like here so people do openly admit to have separate accounts to discuss sensitive material. but they blanket ban all attempts to register or if you do and are no longer causing trouble as they see it, they still ban once they have linked ip addresses. ah, at the end of the day its their forum they can do as they will. I gave up a long time ago.

Were you pretending to be two different people?
Cos that's generally frowned on and I am not surprised they banned you.
Mnhq would ban you if it came to their attention that you were maintaing two different people on here.
Particularly if you make each one live in a different place, have a different number of children, be a different age etc.
Its a lie.

To be honest I don't know if it is the rule I don't think it is, I was previously banned for offering the opinion that the moderation was not up to much and on another occasion for stating I thought that weeks mass banning was unfair.
I don't think I got banned this time for having two usernames but because I said giving older kids soothers was lazy parenting, this caused an uproar with the masses.:-)
Sorry for mentioning the name, didn't realise it wasn't allowed.

I wish I could usualsuspect. Attempts to re join and in very civil contact with them directly once they linked an ip address to a name I used for months and never caused an agro was banned. I was never actually banned. I flounced lol and asked them to remove my posts. then when I tried to rejoin after some time I kept getting banned. All I was told was the decision was final when I asked why. but like I said, I don't mind. I have here and other forums.

Problem is with that other similar website (if its the one I'm thinking of) is that they don't ask you to verify your email when you sign up so you could sign up as Mickey Mouse with a fake email address and you would then be able to join the chat, so there's nothing stopping people from having several different logins which is a recipe for disaster. Despite this total lapse in sign up security the site is totally over moderated and you are not allowed any swear words because all the posters are treated like 5 year olds by the mods.
Anyhow, if its the forum that i think it is then the OP is much better for having had her accounts deleted as its too much sparkles and fairy dust and not much intelligence going on over there.
Much better to post on hereGrin

Multiple log ins are not accepted on any forum I've ever been on.

Not to say posters don't do it, but if you are caught out then yes all accounts will be banned.

caca don't worry about it. their loss. I love MN as you can debate, you cannot delete without contacting MNHQ with a valid reason so no going off in a huff because no one agreed with you, no tickers, soppy signatures, fluffy pics or huns and xxxxs, and opinions from all walks of life that make you think.
