To think Blackpool is a bit shit

Just came back from Blackpool and it was utter shit. Why haven't the council there made improvements and made it a decent place to visit?

There is hardly anywhere halfway reasonable to eat, it looks completely broken and unloved. There is just so much potential for development and it could be the "Orlando" of England. Instead, it's just shite.

I've come away thinking I don't need to take my children to Africa to appreciate what they've got: just take them to Blackpool.

On a good note, the beach is very nice. Shame about the drunks weeing all over the stairs to the beach and leaving beer cans everywhere. I saw broken Britain in Blackpool and I shall never go back again.

When we visited I went to the loo just near the sea front and there was a needle disposal bin in the cubicle, with blood smeared all over it. Horrible place, we went to Lytham st Anne, just next to Blackpool and that's lovely.

FFs stop being so snobby. We are going to Blackpool next week for our holidays. We stay in a caravan site in a lovely village and avoid blackpool at night. The dcs love it.

Yes it is run down but for a day at the pleasure beach,the seaside,donkey's and ice cream then whats not to like?

The best thing about Blackpool is Manchester Square, a sewage pumping station, positioned on the promenade, there's not many places with landmarks like that.

It is tacky, true, but lots of people like it - if you are not one of them then just go elsewhere next time. There are lots of less-plastic seaside resorts in the UK .

It is a crap hole , having said that The Big Blue hotel is vey nice , the pleasure beach has some lovely old roller coasters and The Sandcastle is a great waterpark ,so if you just stay 1 night and just visit those places it is quite tolerable .

When we went recently we spent the day in the tower which looks like it needs a lot of tlc and gave up looking for somewhere nice to eat and had chips walking down the beach.
St Anne's is much much nicer. The kids do still like the illuminations though.

I grew up there. I always feel validated when outsiders tell me it's shit. I always thought it was, but my family insisted in telling us how LUCKY we were to be growing up in such a lovely place [hmmm]

I had to go there for a course a few years ago. It was vile beyond belief, and this was during the illuminations, so supposedly when it's at its best. I will never, ever go back there.

I also remember being forced to go on the Grand National roller coaster which scared me to death. How can a wooden fairground ride from the 1920s be so scary?

And that is NOT a beach.

And I am not being snooty, I grew up in Ilfracombe so know what a rundown shithole of a seaside town looks like, but Blackpool is hideous. And the pubs are quite simply frightening.

It's one of the poorest places in the UK. Low incomes, unemployment. It's run down and has fuck all investment or change of growth or regeneration on its current path. Add into that the hen and stag do crowd and you have a recipe for not only being shit, but being unutterably shit.

You have to go in like a commando. Target your area (the sandcastle) get in, get out.
