to ask how much booze you drink? Do you drink everyday?

Because I have been drinking Pimm's & lemonade or with OJ everyday this week & am starting to think it's habit forming.

I don't normally drink everyday. Can I blame it on the heatwave? A bottle of wine or two on a Friday night (or every 2nd Fri) is normal for me.

I don't want to turn into a 'non-functional' alcoholic like my BIL. On the otherhand my 85 year old grandmother drinks everyday & I wouldn't class her as an alcoholic and or non-functional.

What would you class as having a drink problem/ being an alcoholic?

Thoughts appreciated please.

depends if you are drinking a couple of glasses or an entire bottle daily.

Three glasses of Pimms each day. Although last Friday I had two bottles of wine & admittedly on Sunday I had another bottle of wine, only because DH came home early from work. That last bit sounded like an excuse..

I drink almost every day. Usually 2 glasses of wine. About once a week I'll have 3 glasses. If we are on holiday I will often drink more, probably a bottle a day.

Because it is habit for me and because I think I drink too much I will stop drinking every 2 or 3 years for several months. I didn't drink any alcohol last year from April - August.

I have lost 2 relatives in the last 10 years to alcohol related conditions so its something I do worry about.

1 malibu a week at the most.

I will probably have a drink every day for the next six weeks. Then I'll be back to weekends, my usual rule is "no drinking on a school night". I mostly only have one though. Except when I have two.

I drink rarely but I do tend to binge. In the heat I've been drinking a cider every so often. I think you can blame it on the heatwave really, it feels like you're on holiday so your behaviour changes. I wouldn't class it as a problem unless it continues for weeks/months. Overall what I'd class as a drink problem is either not being able to go without that drink or not being able to do what's expected of you due to drink. Although that's overly simplistic.

I wonder this too. I'd like to drink half a bottle a night but don't. Probably drink a bottle a week. I can see how addictive it is as I almost 'need' it but keep it in check (lots of binge drinking at school probably didn't help)

I might have a glass of wine every couple of weeks.

Did you have two bottles of wine all by yourself last Friday. I'd find that pretty shocking tbh.

Mind you, I am also the person who is genuinely puzzled when women moan about not drinking during pregnancy like its some major hardship.

amiwickedwitch Sat 20-Jul-13 19:04:47

usually have a bottle of wine over 2 night at the weekend, nothing usually in the week unless its a special occasion.

Jinty64 Sat 20-Jul-13 19:04:50

I drink a bottle of wine a week usually over 2-3 nights. When it's gone it's gone!

McNewPants2013 Sat 20-Jul-13 19:04:55

I drink far too much

Whothefuckfarted Sat 20-Jul-13 19:05:29

I don't drink at all. Well, I might have an apple sourz with lemonade at a wedding, or a malibu and pineapple on holiday. But that's it.

Having a drink problem...hmm

I'd say if you drink one glass of wine every night isn't a problem, unless you get ratty if you don't have it.

Getting tipsy every night on a few glasses is definitely on the way to a problem.

Getting rat arsed every weekend without fail even though you're sober in the week could be classed as a problem.

Wolfiefan Sat 20-Jul-13 19:06:00

I do not drink everyday. I think that would constitute a problem for me. Can you substitute a lovely soft drink for 3-4 days a week. I wouldn't want to drink a bottle (2 is way too much IMO) in one go every Friday. I'm sure others will say it's fine. For me alcohol is a real issue if it threatens your health or you feel you have to have it.

I drink most nights, normally only a glass of wine or something. But this heatwave has me drinking pimms and lager (not as a combination together obviously) almost every day. When the heat dies down I'm sure my drinking will too but its sooooo nice to have a refreshing cold drink at the end of the day (and for some off reason just the lemonade doesn't cut it).

BridgetBidet Sat 20-Jul-13 19:07:10

BastardDog you should be careful and try and introduce at least a couple of booze free days a week.

I used to work as a medical secretary and my dept dealt with all the liver issues. Constantly there were patients who drank like you do coming in needing a liver transplant in their late 40s to early 50s. People who didn't necessarily get drunk but dranks steadily every day.

Giving up for a few month doesn't help that much because the damage is done cumulatively when you are drinking.

LucilleBluth Sat 20-Jul-13 19:07:20

I drink every evening, mostly one glass but sometimes two, as I get older though I can't really go beyond the two glasses, I like feeling slightly buzzed but not drunk. I wouldn't say a few glasses of pimms in this weather is bad at all.

Xihha Sat 20-Jul-13 19:07:31

I would class it as a problem if you cant relax or enjoy yourself without having a drink or start getting cranky coz you havent had a drink in a while, or if you get drunk really often.

Normal for me is a drink after work friday and saturday night (im a barmaid so its 1 drink while clearing up) and if im out on a nice day i might have a glass of fruit cider with lunch or after the kids have gone to bed (or sometimes both). i do go out and have a few too many drinks but not that often as i cant often afford it.

I'm not sure having a glass or two of pimms everyday for a week is a problem, its nice weather, enjoy it.

usuallyright Sat 20-Jul-13 19:08:10

A couple of glasses every other night. I try to have a night off in between. Never drink more than 3 glasses.
Now I'm older (40) if I overdo it, I have a racing heart and headache (after just 3 glasses) so I don't have the stomach for it anymore.

When i was living my wild party days in my early 20s before I met my dp, I was drinking heavily probably 3 or 4 times a week.

When I got with dp (after the initial going out all the time stage) probably one or two nights a week having a few drinks with the odd heavy night once or twice a month.

Once we moved in together, very rarely tbh. Almost never drink at home, only when we go out. And I'm pregnant at the moment so never!

CheckpointCharlie Sat 20-Jul-13 19:11:24

We drink over the weekends, a bottle each. We don't drink in the week.
It's probably a bit too much though.

catgirl1976 Sat 20-Jul-13 19:11:48

Bottle of wine most night

Very rarely drink in the day

piratecat Sat 20-Jul-13 19:12:26

i don't anymore, maybe a lager every few months, but i don't go out.

I have gone through different stages with different life experiences tho. I had to have a bottle of red wine in and have a drink every night 2 -3 glasses when my ex dh left. That went on a while, prob two yrs.

I do fancy a drink now and again, but never seem to go down that aisle anymore. Also, it doesn't mix well with me anymore (early 40's) and it's horrible the next day.

LimitedEditionLady Sat 20-Jul-13 19:13:17

I drink once every three to four months.
My partner drinks every night,he thinks im boring.I think he is silly.

TabithaStephens Sat 20-Jul-13 19:21:49

I gave up drinking 18 months ago. It's amazing how much better you feel for it.
