Lighthearted thread by the way.

My grandmother popped round with a present for my DD today who has just turned one, now she has a pretty impressive reputation for the worlds worst presents but today she has finally beaten her own record!

She bought 1 year old DD a teddy bear, sounds good so far until you look closely and see it has a bloody cigarette in its mouth! And if you press its tummy it plays something resembling rave music!

Who the hell would buy a smoking teddy for a baby?

Can't stop laughing at it.

Worst part is she handed it straight to DD who now loves it and hasn't let it go since, she's headed to ruins now isn't she.

Maybe we should run out and buy a bear complete with diploma and boden outfit to compensate. Wink

Bit of a fire risk for teddy to start smoking in any case...

Could have been worse - clutching a Greggs and a fruit shoot..

Lol.

An elderly relative once bought cute little wind up toys for the kids, many years ago. The kids didn't like to point out that they were wind-up willies! They mysteriously disappeared once one of the other adults noticed amidst much hilarity.

haha aww bless your Grandmother!

I had a nan who was equally bad at presents, it became a bit of a family joke tbh.

Can you 'wash it' to get rid of the tunes and find a way of removing the fag? Although at 1 realistically your DD has no idea what the fag is

My uncle bought ds a dog toy when he was eighteen months old. Not a toy dog, but a toy for a dog. It was a squeaky carrot. I thanked him profusely and explained that the squeak was a choke hazard.

He is lovely my uncle, out for all he can give, but has no idea. He is in hospital right now, and no doubt plotting how to get me to allow him to buy a full drum kit for my now six year old. I go with the flow mostly but I am still struggling with the four foot high cheap furred fuck off panda that took an entire car seat to itself when we took the bastard home.

Gota love your grandmother. One day this will be an excellent story, until then try and find replacement teddy. I remember my granny giving me knitted booties one year as I get cold feet.......I was in my late 30s and they were yellow and like something you give to a baby. I thanked her but...still....its gone down in family history like this teddy will.

oh dear, poor granny - you know she means well and does not have a clue - she only saw "bear"
I remember being first upset and then amused when DHs elderly aunt sent Ds age 2 a birthday card with a snooker playing beer drinking teddy on it - the sort you would get for your dad or uncle - again, she only saw teddy bear

Grin Dd's grandpa bought her a metal goose doorstop for her first birthday. For her second birthday, he bought her a china cat hanger with a mouse dangling from it.

I could go on Grin.

A teddy bear with a fag doesn't sound so bad! Perhaps as it was a musical bear, it was a flute/recorder/other musical thing hanging from its mouth?

My ILs gave the kids these weird teddies that looked a bit like red jelly babies, and if you squeezed them they vibrated manically, giggled and said 'that's funny'. Being of slightly dubious Japanese origin, their voice boxes were crap, and what they actually said was. 'Arse fanny'!!! Hmm Confused Grin
They were the MOST annoying things I have EVER seen!

That bear sounds like something I'd have bought as a gag gift for a friend at age 18!

Summerhasloaded love the thought that the bear could be playing a flute while emitting rave music!

I'm loving this thread. My nan bought my youngest DC the film Ted a few weeks ago because it was relatively cheap. She thought it was about a 'sweet bear.' You can imagine her face when I explained what it was really about.

Ds2 picked up a little parrot in a charity shop the other day, it mad a noise when you squeezed it. It wasn't until we were in the car and he was pressing it over and over that it registered that what it was saying was
Polly wants a fucking cracker...
Get your tits out...
And other such stuff!!!
