To hate shopping?

Just that really. Clothes shopping specifically. I am rubbish at it and often feel like I'm the only woman in the world who doesnt enjoy it. I need to buy something new for a night out I've got coming up, semi smart but not too dressy. Got about £60 ish to spend. Where does a 37 year old start on this? Seems everywhere is geared up for teenagers/early twenties types. Any thoughts to save me the misery of trawling the shops? For info I'm about 5' 5" size 12 and dark hair & fair skin. Save me ladies!

I HATE shopping. I hate the way women are seemingly only ever portrayed as 'shopaholics' with a shoe addiction. If I had my way, we'd all wear togas.

Nope, your not. I hate it too. There are few things more tedious. I've developed a staple wardrobe of clothes and when they need replacing I usually get a version of the same thing. I accessories with jewellery, scarves and bags, most of which i've owned for years and brought on a whim from a boutique on a day out, or been given them as presents. I rummage charity shops in up market areas (which have 'nice coffee shops to break up the boredom') about twice a year. If I have to buy a dress for a wedding or something for an interview I have a melt down. I hate it, hate it hate it. God forbid If I have to buy shoes to match a dress etc......Noooooooooooooooooo.

Another hater here!

Can I suggest booking a free appointment with a personal shopper in one of the department stores such as Debenhams? It's still not fun, but at least you get coffee!

And me.... if I need clothes, I just want to walk in the door.. see what I want & in the correct size.. pick it up, pay & walk out again...

Jeans and tshirts I can cope with but anything else is such a nightmare - esp when on a tight budget.

I hate it too, went last week, managed to find a bra and two skirts that fit me and I liked, phoned dh to tell of my success and he ordered me back in the shops to buy duplicates of everything so that he was twice as long before he has to listen to me moan again! Grin

Me too. I nerve myself up for an expedition about every six months. I would happily wear the same outfit for life like the Amish to avoid the tedium of shopping.

Phew I feel better knowing it isn't just me, thank you all. I'd always thought a personal shopper appointment thingy might be just too awful but hey if you get a cuppa that may just be worth it...

I loathe shopping too. Even when a burst of enthusiasm or a sudden windfall comes over me and I think "yeah, I'll spend a few hours trying stuff on and buy myself some nice new bits" I get downhearted when nothing fits or looks half decent and I come home empty handed, feeling rubbish about my body. I would happily wear a bin bag every day if it saved shopping.

I do that sweet honey bee, I have the same top in 6 colours because I thought it looked good. Trouble is I've put on a few pounds since so now they all look terrible!

any consolation, I hate it too. Smelly overheated shops, crap naff uncomfortable clothes with no pockets, inaccurate sizing and itchy lace on everything. How anyone thinks it is a hobby or fun is utterly beyond me.

hope you don't have to go this weekend.

I hate it too. Trying things on makes me angry especially in this weather. Plus even if I had a million quid there's nothing I want to buy- i hate it all.
