I've lost a stone and a half recently but am still short and fat. I do go in in the middle so am not technically round!

I've just bought this for a 40th birthday lunch at the weekend. I'm going to look like a giant tomato aren't I?

With the way the dress falls, its possible it won't make enough of your figure, looks like it might skim over your shape in such a way that you look bigger than you are. That being said, you can't tell just from the pic and I am sure that you will not look round! Just possible that you need something more fitted to make the most of your curves

Damn it I thought it looked quite shapely. Maybe that's just the model. I guess you mean empire line or something?

I think the only women who can carry off a maxi dress are tall and thin. Unfortunately i am neither and defo would look like an over ripe tomato.

I think the colour is very pretty and I think many women can pull of maxi dresses (not just tall and thin!!!) but in the right shape.

That one is a bit binbag like, it doesn't have much of a shape and therefore may make you look a little shapeless.

Something empire line or with more of a fitted streamline shape (can still have a nice flow to it) may work better.

Oh bugger. Now I really really want it to arrive so I can see if it works. One of the women coming on Sunday is about 5"10' and a size 8. The others are cuddly. I bet they're all going to wear jeans and tops and I'll look like a right muppet!

Congrats on the weight loss! The dress is a really lovely colour, and unless you have bottle red hair and are sunburnt you will not look like a tomato!
Like someone else pointed out the dress is a bit shapeless. If you wore it with a skinny belt then pulled the top part out a little so it's looser you will be able to show off your waist. And don't wear it with flat or bulky shoes, wear strappy sandals with heels if possible. Also wear a chunky necklace to balance out the hem.
Hope you have a lovely lunch :)

I love the colour red and wear it as often as possible.

Personally, I'm not sure that dress will help you if you are a little plump. You should show all your assets off especially if you have a nice waist. How about a prom dress with a cinch belt?

Also I'm not a fan on the lower at the back type of dress...what's the point of being able to see the lining of the dress?

Could you maybe put a big belt round it? That might help make it more shapely?

If you have a waist, show your waist. IMO, maxi dresses don't look good on us shorties, either. Love the colour though

I don't think that dress would do anyone any favours, there isn't much shape to it to be honest. Something a bit more fitted will be far more flattering. Love the colour though, looks good esp with a nice tan :)

I have thin belts and thick belts. I'll try it with both! I also have a hugely chunky red necklace which I will wear if it doesn't clash.

I don't have sunburn Grin. Am sort of tanned and am dying away the gray tomorrow so should look reasonable. Even if you will be able to see the dress from the moon!

I will try with chunky necklace and with small understated silver necklace and see which works. I'll report back tomorrow when it arrives. It probably won't fit after all this.

I don't look like a tomato! It fits and it's quite flattering. I might try a belt for added cinching. The only thing is it quite a bit thinner than I thought so goodness knows what I'll wear under it. I think it's more beach wear over a cossie than birthday lunch! Hey ho.
