AIBU?

to wonder how many mums take "something" to help them through the day?

By "something" I mean either legal or illegal drugs, herbal supplements, alcohol, basically anything that makes life easier and more bareable.

I ask because a in the last few weeks I have had two seperate friends admit that they take things to help them "survive" as one elloquently put it. One is taking something called Kratom and another said she is taking a herbal supplement called Rhodiolea or something like that. It made me curious as to whether this is common/normal?

Tea and chocolate get me through the day, does that count?

Not in this house it isn't! I really hope that this isn't normal

Erm no not normal in my experience!

But maybe my friends are all just secret druggies...

Not me single parent working full time running own business including nights and weekends. Tea is my only stimulant - work is clincal so never drink alcohol closer than 24 hours to work often much longer.

I can't say that I use any supplements or know of anyone who does. But then I don't suppose it's something people necessarily talk about openly

Does coffee count, if so, yes. I 'need' coffee to get through the day but did pre-kids too.

Other than that I take the odd vitamin supplement as I'm BFing..,.

I suspect some of my friends do, but not 'drugs' more like AD's or Beta blockers etc. They just seem abnormally chilled Grin

I take champix which I have discovered works like an AD and also wine at night!

Just tea and coffee. They are mild stimulants but I drank them before I had children too.

Nope. Not here. Not even much tea and coffee any more.

Last time I went to the doctor, he told me that a third of people through his door are on ADs mostly for stress.
I self-medicate with tea and muffins.

Not intentionally.

I have a chronic bad back. Most days I can get by on paracetamol but roughly twice a week I have to take tramadol if the pain is bad. On those days I feel really cheerful, like that feeling when you've had a glass or so of wine and all is right with the world.

It would be seriously tempting to take it everyday. I wouldn't say I suffer with low mood, but it just makes me calm and happy. Unfortunately, having a Dad with many addictions has made me very strict with myself because I have a fear of turning out like him.

Berocca and a B12 supplement.

And chocolate.

And coffee.

And sometimes a glass or three of wine after bedtime.

Cadbury chocolate fingers. Now I have a big tum to prove it.

I self medicate with treats all the darn time and it's getting me down.

I don't drink, don't smoke and don't do any drugs and I am not on any ADs, but this over eating will harm me I know it.

Tea, coffee, sweets, chocolate, some Kalms tablets, rescue rememdy and paracetamol when it all gets too much! The side effects are severe mood swings and 2 massive fillings (nearly lost a whole tooth). What kind of side effects do you get from other 'something's?
I was offered Diazepam from the GP when I had 3 under 3 but declined. I was breastfeeding for the first year of each baby's life so pretty restricted.

Nope.

Coffee, tea, chocolate, other treat foods to lift my mood / chill me out.

I wouldn't bother with herbally stuff like Rescue Remedy because I don't believe it works and I think the kind of minor stress / down feelings that I ocassionally suffer don't need chemical "cure", I just need to get a bit more sleep and exercise.

Do desperate housewives still take Valium these days?

Tea is my only drug of choice - pretty boring!

I was offered a beer or wine on arrival at a play date once at...............10.30 am! On a week day. I declined, the play date was for two hours and the Mum had 5 bottles of Peroni in that time.
