AIBU?

To hate the stealth boasting of posting holiday pics on FB?

I'm not jealous - we're going on holiday ourselves later in the summer - but I just find it bad taste and I'd hate my friends who aren't going on holiday to be reminded of that fact and feel even worse about it than they probably already do.

OP posts:

It's not stealth boasting. Lots of people do this just to say they are having a good time,

You are over thinking Facebook. And some people are pleased when they see their friends and family having a good time.

Really?? Geez , that'sa bizarre view IMO OP.
I post pictures on facebook so my friends and family can see them and share in our family experiences/shots.
What sort of photos would be in better "taste"?

People post about their lives on FB - surely posting about a holiday is completely normal? Confused

I like seeing my friends holiday photos, and they like seeing mine. No boasting involved.

I hate killjoys like this. I am happy when my friends and family go on holiday, and like looking at the pictures.

I really like looking at friends holiday pictures, I may feel jealous that they're on a wonderful looking holiday and I'm stuck at work but I love seeing what they've been up to!

How is it stealth boasting? Confused

I have no problem seeing my friends' holiday pics. It's nice to see them having a lovely time and keeping up to date with what's happening in their lives.

I love seeing holiday pics. I don't see them as boasting at all, it's just my friends having a nice time.

OP -seriously - you need to ditch FB. This is precisely what it's for and I love seeing pics of where my friends are. Love it. And I love posting pics of where I am too -whether it's on holiday or here. YABU and miserable.

I post mine. I don't consider it stealth boasting - just letting my friends know what I am up to?

A couple of years ago it worked out well, as my second cousin posted a pic of himself on holiday, and it turned out that we were in the same resort at the same time - so I used facebook to contact him and meet up for a family drink.

YABU

Thats loony, like saying its poor taste to ever post anything positive. No pics of attractive/ healthy looking people incase it upsets those of us who aren't either please, no photo of pets incase they are seen by somebody whose rabbit once died, no photos of scenes involving sunshine incase they upset somebody who views them on a rainy day... Perhaps don't use fb, your "empathy" is misplaced :)

On the other hand people who post pictures of every songle thing they eat with the caption "nom" should ne blocked immediately :)

Please explain your use of the word "stealth".

It could be outright boasting, if you think saying "I am doing a lovely thing and having a lovely time" is boasting.

But there's no stealth about it.

Yabu. It's not stealth boasting.

In some cases it might be boasting but generally its just part of their lives as another poster said !

People who take pictures of their food have jumped the shark and should be shot.

I think this is hilarious, Why shouldn't people share their holiday photos..one of my friends is travelling the world at the moment, I love seeing her photos..Evene if its a camping year for us it doesn't make me sad that family are on safari..Its niced when good things happen to the people you love :)

Do you feel the same about photos of happy days out, new babies, cute pets, weddings...? People want those and can't always have them?
I post photos on my FB to keep a reminder of happy times for myself to look back on.
But I wouldn't put on pics of material stuff like cars. I think that's boasty.

It's not boasting!! Those pics are people's actual lives! What else is fb for?
So we must all refrain from posting happy holidays on fb in case someone is jealous? Don't be daft!

But yes...no pics of holiday food people. The meal is only interesting to those who consumed it people. To the rest of us it looks like a plate of mess.

flatmum · 10/07/2013 08:59

it's better than the endless pictures of people's dinner! I'd much rather see pics of happy kids enjoying themeselves on the sun than a picture of someone who is on a diets every meal (seriously)

There is so much angst about Facebook I seriously wonder why people bother using it Hmm? (disclaimer - I don't and manage to have a perfectly happy and fulfilled life Grin).

Surely you don't have to look at the photos if you don't want to, it's no different to the 'olden' days when people would bring round their photographs to show you - or even worse their homemade video films !

I love seeing peoples holiday photos. I definitely don't see it as boasting. Agree about the food pics though!
