AIBU?

To hate it when people shorten the names of food?

Strawbs is the worst one I've heard recently. Veg, spag bol and pots also set my teeth on edge. I don't mind so much when they are written down, it's when they're said out loud that I find it fills me with rage irritating. None of these are particularly difficult words to say so why? Why do it? Anyone else feel my pain, or am I just weird?

(In case anyone asks, I know it isn't the biggest problem in the world, and yes I do have better things to worry about Wink.)

YANBU, I unreasonably get irritated by this too. The other extreme version of this I especially hate is when adults refer to food as some ridiculous derivative of its proper name when speaking to children, like moo- moo for milk and nahna for banana.

Yeah I have better things to worry about too, but who can resist a good moan?

Oh dear. Don't think you'd like to visit us then! Tonight, amongst other things, we've had pot salad, cuke and toms, and yog, strawbs and bloobs(blueberries) for pudding!

Slightly unrelated but I want to strangle mildly berate my friend when she tells me (several times now) that she and her DH and 2 DSs call Parmesan 'smelly sock cheese'. Angry

Spag bol is better than spag bog! Hate it (the name not the meal).

Not so bothered by pots, though I'd think someone was referring to dirty dishes as opposed to potatoes.

Mac n cheese, or mac cheese.

How about spud? It's like a nickname for a potato.
