AIBU?

Think DH has totally over reacted

This is pretty minor in the scheme of things however just wondered what you guys think.

Have been out all day enjoying the sunshine & I am driving back. Few mins from the house I mention I am desperate for a wee, & hubby also says he needs to go. Larking around we keep trying to state who has more reason to go first ( we have on bathroom).

So as we pull in I jump out of the car & race in while he is unloading the boot, & I run upstairs to nip in first. Whilst in the bathroom I hear the door close but it has swung shut before hubby gets in. He starts knocking on the door. I am shouting I will come down in a minute but he properly starts slamming the door. Once I am finished in the bathroom (2 mins top - it really was a wee!!) I run down & open the door. He starts shouting at me & completely over reacting. His argument is i should not have locked him out & he is totally humiliated as people were walking past while he had aload of stuff to unload ( i really don't think they care that much). I apologised for not propping the door open but he keeps going on. So I choose to ignore him & go & sit in the garden.
He can't understand know why I am in a mood with him. He has upset a really lovely day know all for something that was a minor accident.
I personally think he needs to grow up - what do you think?

I would say it is a question of 2 people needing to grow up!

I think he's being a bit af a drama queen. He knew you were bursting to go, so surely can see that you just rushed in without a thought for the door. You hardly kept him waiting half an hour did you?

Perhaps he needs food (think snickers Joan Collins advert).

YANBU. He overreacted. Anyway, when did he actually go to the loo during all of this. Surely he could unload the car onto the porch/whatever while you were weeing. I would've just thought he was waiting for someone to let him in (which he was).
Maybe he's stressed about something else. Anything on tomorrow? My dh gets very neurotic about little things when stressed.

YANBU

He over reacted

Unless he actually wet himself on the pavement I am not sure how being locked out humiliated him

"Totally humiliated"? .

Seems a shame to let something as small as this spoil what had been a good day.

He over reacted, but you should pick your battles. When he apologises for his over reaction, you need to forget about it too.

actually someone running in the house and then shutting me out would give me the rage, i wouldnt care how long for it is very unkind.

You clearly were determined to get to the loo first so I would argue you need to grow up more as it comes across that you were being childish.
If your DH was desperate too he should have left emptying the car until after.

You both sound about 10 years old. I hope you're very happy together.

I would be annoyed at being left to unload the car and being locked out. It's inconsiderate.

She didn't lock him out on purpose!!

A lot of GRIPS are needed - she had a wee then went to open the door, she didn't paint the bloody spare room.

He's being a twat and needs telling.

And he didn't know he was accidentally locked out.

Report
GloriousGoosebumps · 30/06/2013 18:46

Why couldn't he use his own house keys?

Report
DoJo · 30/06/2013 20:06

Sounds like you were both being a bit childish, but you got what you wanted whereas he ended up being locked out, so I would just put it behind you and get on with enjoying the sunshine.

What sunshine? - that's what I want to know.

He overreacted-but, if you knew he was unloading stuff & that the door would close-why not prop it open?

How annoying to carry stuff to the house & you can't get in!

Report
WandaDoff · 30/06/2013 20:50

Perhaps he was bursting too & didn't want passers by seeing him doing the potty dance.

That's no excuse though, he definitely overreacted.

Has he apologised yet?

Report
DameFanny · 30/06/2013 20:53

Why did he not have his own key?

Report
Viviennemary · 30/06/2013 20:57

OK if you rushed to be first in the loo. Not OK to have locked your DH out even if it was accidently. That put you in the wrong so apologise!!

Report
AmberLeaf · 30/06/2013 21:15

You can see why he thought it wasn't accidental though can't you?
