I've just come back from a tropical country and am feeling quite feverish and sick.

Is is normal to experience this after such a trip?

Thank you

Go to the doctor.

No, not overly normal.

Can be the sign of a lot of illnesses, so get it checked out ASAP. Better to be safe than sorry!

I've called and they cannot see me until monday. I'm just wondering how urgent it is.

I would class it as an emergency with the GP.

I explained where i had been and they didn't seen bothered. I spoke to a receptionist though, not a doctor.

You should speak to someone medically trained so they can take a decent history and they can then make the decision as to whether it's urgent or not - it's a faff but try NHS dire t or 111 if GP can't see you.

Did you need vaccinations?

If you made it quite clear to your gps surgery that you have just got back from a tropical country then see the doctor on Monday.

However from now until then, if your symptoms worsen, I would go directly to a&e.

It depends where you went and whether there is a risk of communicable diseases.

I think I'd be ringing the surgery for further advice

Could be something simple but I wouldn't take the chance in case treatment is needed. If your GP really refuses to see you then I'd go to OOH later and tell them why.

Don't speak to the receptionist. Insist on speaking to a doctor - always get checked out if you have a fever / shivers and have returned from a malarial zone.

No. We're you in a malarial area? If so emergency appointment and say where you've been travelling. Actually, it might be worth doing that regardless.

Or try ringing the Hospital for Tropical Diseases for advice.

Thank you so much for the advice. I think I will insist on some blood tests.
