To think that a handbag full of dogs should give up their seat for me?

<Frivolous bus AIBU!>

I agree I'm pretty much at the bottom of the pile of who should get the priority seats by the wheelchair/buggy area on the bus. Today I got on, parked my buggy and asked the woman taking up the two seats directly behind if I could please sit down. She had two dogs on her lap, and three handbag type bags with dogs inside on the seat next to her.

She said "No. I've got my dogs with me."
I said "Well I've got my baby with me."
She just shrugged and said "Well I can't put then on the floor!"

I thought - Erm... Yes you can! But didn't say anything and just stood by the pram for the rest of the journey.

Obviously it didn't do me any harm to stand, but dogs-really- should they get the seat?

Binkybix Thu 13-Jun-13 17:16:30

You should have got the seat smile

Eyesunderarock Thu 13-Jun-13 17:18:11

Were they small enough to sit on, like little furry cushions?
Do it fast enough and they would be flat before they got the chance to grab a mouthful.

thefirstmrsrochester Thu 13-Jun-13 17:18:11

Er....she couldn't put the dogs in the bags on the floor for what reason exactly confused

Alisvolatpropiis Thu 13-Jun-13 17:19:08

I suppose they're at least not likely to get under people's feet if they're on a seat.

Travelling on public transport with 5 dogs is pretty bonkers though.

I don't think yabu.

Can we also talk about people who sit on the outside seat and then put their bag on the inside one with the clear intention of not moving for anybody? I deliberately sit next to these people, makes me laugh when they have the audacity to huff/tut grin

MrsTerryPratchett Thu 13-Jun-13 17:19:39

They were PFPuppies. You can stand. grin

Eyesunderarock Thu 13-Jun-13 17:19:46

because they were her babies, MrsR, and she had three so they outnumbered the OP's one. Don't you know anything about dog owners and levels of sanity reasonable behaviour?

WestieMamma Thu 13-Jun-13 17:21:39

It depends entirely on the cuteness of the dogs. Puppies would definitely need a seat. Ugly mutts should go on the floor. grin

I've said before on here that someone once said to me, when you meet someone annoying, you should just think "Oh you must be the idiot I was scheduled to meet today" and it helps you deal with the frustration. Totally helped me not get annoyed with random people behaving like idiots. She was the idiot for today.

<goes off to shout "idiot" at a few people inside own head>

5 dogs! YABU for wanting to sit next to anyone that batty grin

Aetae Thu 13-Jun-13 17:22:06

You should have said "That's ok, I'll put them on the floor for you" grin.

Honestly some people are mad. I love my dog, but he is NOT allowed to sit on the seats on public transport (my rules and also I thought the bus rules as well). I'm surprised the bus driver allowed it.

Heartbrokenmum73 Thu 13-Jun-13 17:22:23

You should have said 'well, I've got my big fat arse with me' then sat on her dogs!

I think you know you're not BU - are dogs even allowed on seats? Not on my local buses!

TheRealFellatio Thu 13-Jun-13 17:24:40

YANBU. grin

Do you suppose she can ever put them on the floor for their whole lives? Or are they very special non-floor-compliant dogs?

TheRealFellatio Thu 13-Jun-13 17:26:24

You should have asked to see all of their tickets and then shoed her yours and said 'So fuck you, dog lady, budge up.'

Owllady Thu 13-Jun-13 17:27:21

rofl at that woman! of course she could have put her bag down

omg the bus is totally bizarre these days isnt it?

it really is never without incident. I caught it last week, it stopped outside the hospital...this bloke got on, stumbled forward and hit his head off the drivers glass window. The driver said 'get off my bus now!' the man said '^whaaaat??? hozmush iz town?'...driver said 'get off my bus now or I will phone the police!'

Man basically fell off bus outside hospital hitting his head off mirror stumbling around, screaming that he was going to punish everyone on the bus confused it was 2 in the afternoon confused ( I felt a bit sorry for him)

but no-one else on the bus said anything and didn't respond at all. We all just stared forward as if it wasn't happening...confused

I hope her dogs shit in her handbag.

LEMisdisappointed Thu 13-Jun-13 17:32:24

A dog is allowed to travel for free on a bus (at the drivers discretion) so long as it doesn't take up seating space, you should have asked her if she had a ticket for the dogs!

RainforestGym Thu 13-Jun-13 17:33:23

I think there were actually eight, two in each bag, two on her lap.

Wish I had offered to move them for her!

The handbag ones were Paris Hilton types, (not puppies) the ones on her lap were pretty cute and yes I was a bit U to want to sit next to them all anyway, the top handbag kept sniffing at my PFB!

LEMisdisappointed Thu 13-Jun-13 17:34:44

Owllady - i would have felt sorry for him too, he may have been diabetic - my tutor at university got arrested for drunk and disorderly once because she was having a hypo and staggering around all over the place. I imagine she would have threatened to punish everyone on the bus too grin Couldnt really let him on the bus like that though.

DeepRedBetty Thu 13-Jun-13 17:41:13

I'm trying really hard to get my head round anyone taking eight dogs on a bus... even handbag size ones! With our dog-walking business we're insured to walk four dogs per handler, and just because a dog is Paris Hilton size quite small doesn't stop it from zigzagging about, jumping up, tying its lead in knots, nipping ankles, starting World War 3 by yapping at passing Big Bastard Dogs then running away in a pathetic manner...

It's hard enough picking up poo with four in hand, how can anyone pick up poo with eight looping around?

thefirstmrsrochester Thu 13-Jun-13 17:44:52

very special non-floor compliant dogs

lolaflores Thu 13-Jun-13 17:46:37

On a slight tangent....has anyone seen the ads for the new show on Animal Planet about the people wanting to clone their now dead doggies? Really?
I imagine reading this, those little beauties wouldn't even see the inside of a bus. Being as it is for the common herd and not special little luv bundles such as theirs.
Cloning. A. Dog> Cos you loved it so much and are so frikkin mad that you are prepared to be Frankenstein.
Now, please form an orderly queue to remonstrate with me

D0oinMeCleanin Thu 13-Jun-13 17:47:12

My dog won't sit on the floor on the bus. He starts off on the floor and then the bus pulls out and he sort of goes "shit the floor is moving! Save me woman!" and throws himself at me blush Perhaps her dogs are as stoopid as mine, who oddly loves trains and loves sitting on the floor by the heater confused

I keep my dog on my lap though, I don't put him on the seats. He stinks most of the time blush

DRB - I think that's why she'd zipped most of them up in the bags hmm.
