AIBU?

Have the religious people ruined my child's nap? AIBU to feel like my human right have been trampled?

OK, not the second part, that is just my tired, addled brain creating reasons to get them banned.

DD (2) two days in a row was woken at the very beginning of her nap by religious types at the door. The same ones two days in a row. Regardless of the fact that they were politely told we weren't interested the first day. Now, DD won't nap. DH wasn't so polite the second day and they haven't been back. These are the same ones who keep talking after I have shut the door in the past and also insist on knocking and ringing the bell.

AIBU to think that if there is a heaven and if there is a gatekeeper I believe neither that people who wake sleeping children after having been told will be refused and redirected to a special kind of hell. One where they have the migraine I had yesterday and a grumpy toddler who screams, "NO NAP" at them repeatedly.

I can sympathise. I have a policy to never buy anything from a company that uses door to door methods (I'm looking to YOU LoveFilm!). I find it too intrusive.

However, don't make this about bashing their religion, just put a sign up saying "No cold callers, baby sleeping".

YANBU You should put up a notice that says "Anyone who wakes my sleeping child will reserve themselves a special place in hell." or something along those lives.

In the 12 1/2yrs I've lived here I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times we've had JWs or any other type of religious group. I think they're too afraid to venture on this estate Grin

I think they're too afraid to venture on this estate. Is it wrong that I am imagining a country estate with dogs and gamekeepers keeping the cold callers away?

Oh OP, yanbu, the red rage descends on me whenever cold callers ring my bell and wake up my sleeping child. It's so intrusive isn't it?

It can be anyone, not just the religious types. We get lots of people trying to sell us things.

Our dc were born just before a general election. I put a note on the door saying "If you wake our babies, you won't get our votes". Didn't hear the doorbell once!

Make a sign and get yourself a lump of blutack for whenever your dd is sleeping or you don't want to be disturbed by anyone.

I wish Grin No, it's housing association and while it's not a no go area there are some individuals who you wouldn't want to encounter. There were a couple of times when they knocked when I first lived here but they were both years ago. I suspect any religious group will have given us all up as a lost cause.

what Chaotic said. This gave me the rage on a number of occasions when my kids were little. Both mine were appalling nappers, and having someone wake them up hammering on the door five minutes after having spent the last hour settling them reduced me to tears several times.

I had a girl come round a couple of days back to try and sign me up for some sort of cancer care (nothing I recognised). I had to shut the door in her face in the end because she kept talking over me/ignoring me when I was telling her that I couldn't speak now as the children were killing each other in the front room (it was perfectly obvious from the noise and presumably the look on my face that this was the case)

The charity idiots don't seem as loud. The most recent one comes at dinner time. DD is a good eater and a horrible sleeper so that works for me. He also admitted that, when I told him my money goes to the Red Cross, that his does too.

I did see a sign on Google that said, "Any religious callers, I will sacrifice a kitten in the name of Satan for every leaflet." Is that going too far?

I'm loving "If you wake our babies, you won't get our votes".

Put a sign up above the bell "Ring it and face my wrath! Babies sleeping." My normally heavy handed posty who generally makes me think he's trying to break the door down as the hounds of hell are after him, now knocks so timidly sometimes I don't hear him and he has to wave through the playroom window at me Grin

Most of the people who knock on my door are delivery people with parcels for my neighbours, I need to find a non rude way of putting in a notice I can put on my door saying, If your not calling for this address please don't knock/ring as the baby is sleeping. The door also sets the dog off barking which won't help once baby arrives.

They are being rude, and shouldnt be bahaving that way.
[said as a religious person myself].

i absolutely hate cold callers, has anyone in the history of ever actually said 'thank god you came i was just thinking of changing religion/tv supplier/windows/electricity supplier/getting a new roof and of course i am going to go with the first one that knocks'

Sometimes they are so rude, and then i'm rude back and i'm the one feeling shitty for the rest of afternoon. I can't even ignore them as if my ds gets to the door first he invites anyone in!!!

I'm going to use some of your suggestions. I think, however, that she may have given up napping altogether as some sort of toddler religious protest.

Think I might put up a sign or two! The only time I've done it was when we were politely informed that someone from the post office would be calling between 7pm and 9pm with a 2013 calendar for us (WTF?!) so I put a note on the door asking them not to call on us as baby would be sleeping I wish

On the other hand, DS, who is notorious for waking up if you breathe too loudly recently slept through a very loud burglary attempt (ringing doorbell a million times, then trying to hammer down the door when no-one answered), as well as the heated exchange between DH and burglar and the subsequent police visit Shock

Poor DH was panicked during this hour of really noisy activity (as DS is such a bad sleeper). He finally relaxed as he closed the door when the police left and 10 minutes later DS woke up Smile

Nicolaeus DS is messing with you. I think they have their own version of the Contented Little Baby Book called How to Drive Your Parents Round the Twist.

I used to know someone who used to invite them in.... the tanks with snakes along one wall of the lounge including a 13ft Boa constricter and the Doberman glaring from his bed were enough to make sure they only came once!! Grin
Another friend (highly intelligent and articulate) would invite them in and 'discuss' their religion/charitable interests/products....for the next 2 hours...or until they didn't know what their own point of view was...he considered it sport!! Grin

I dislike the telephone cold callers. Although no babies in the house, I am on the end of the scale - an old crock- and need my kip in the afternoons.
I have a telephone in the bedroom for emergencies, and very often the phone rings just as I've sunk into blissful, relaxing < the old worn out joints> oblivion [anger]

As far as the JWs are concerned, I did have them call in the summer and as I'm on my own, I gabbled on about what the world is coming to for ages. I always enjoyed myself, but think they were glad to get rid of me SadSmile

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/05/2013 15:19

digerd feel free to come round and chat to mine while DD sleeps. Smile

DH thinks we should find out where they live and go and sell them atheism while they are at home.

Put a sign on the door saying 'If you wake the baby, you WILL be expected to stay and get him back to sleep'.

LoveFilm ticks me off because we already have LoveFilm. Don't they give these people a list?!?!

I used to disconnect the doorbell and put a sign on the door.

YANBU at all. Note on the door to ask them to politely leave you alone.

DO you also get the phone calls? I worry about this as I'm about to give birth and we have around a dozen calls a day.

Mrs TP

Our doorbell broke 4 years ago.

I have not yet had it fixed Grin

If people are knocking on the door I pretend I can't hear them even though my barking dogs give the game away every time

Might this be an option for you?

The phone calls are mainly evening and I can cope with that. I am liking the idea of the 'broken' doorbell but the people who came two days in a row repeatedly banged on the door and rang the doorbell. I'm sure that's not what Jesus would do. Or whomever they believe in, we didn't stop to ask. If we didn't answer, the knocking would still wake DD.
