Completely Unreasonable "Gives Me The Rage"...

(105 Posts)

I know we do this every so often on MN but it can be very cathartic...

My "across the road" neighbour gives me completely unjustifiable rage with his woodstaining obsession. He has a normal 3 bedroom detached house with a normal amount of windows and doors, but he sees woodstaining the wood around these as a "Forth Road Bridge"-Esque job....he does it constantly. With his wee brush, running it slowly and deliberately round the edges...

This impinges on my life in absolutely no way at all.

I asked my DH about it - WHY does B feel the need to constantly be paiting the windows and you don't. He looked up from his ipad for a nanosecond and replied "5 year woodstain...". Would it be unreasonable of me to stick a picture of some from B&Q through B's door to free him from his wood stain enslavement..??

He was doing again yesterday. DH is in the US working. I sent him a picture and said "B is doing it again...in the rain...". Apparently when my DH is away he wants pics of his children and not the neighbours that give me unjustifiable rage.

Can I legitimately go over and remove the dinky wee brush from B...Or indeed insert it elsewhere...?? I've only just got over the "guy round the corner" who spent 3 weeks painting a door a few years ago...

Maybe its wee brushes and "concentrating" faces that I hate...maybe I should start a campaign to rid the world of tiny brushes (other than for make up use before I get too flamed here...) and insist everything is slapped on in a 10 minute window with a big comedy brush..

I'll pop the wine in the freezer for later..

I kind of know how you feel as I used to have a neighbour across the road who would wash and clean out his car with a vacuum cleaner every single day even in the rain. It used to really annoy me even though it shouldn't have. I was relieved when he moved away.

I have mentioned this before. We have foot photo lady. She randomly comes outside to take pictures of her feet and then goes back inside. She either needs to stop doing it. Or post a polite note explaining why she is doing it. grin

FattyMcChubster Fri 24-May-13 08:08:56

Our neighbours are similar. They meticulously clear every flake of snow from the car and driveway, while its still snowing. They then go back inside and don't use the bloody car! Drives me crackers.

I used to walk to work past a house where the owner must have spent a month, no kidding, sanding and painting the front door. It looks no different to any other front door, either.

My neighbours opposite are obsessive window cleaners. They start as soon as they get up in the morning, cleaning all the windows inside. Once that has finished and they are dressed, they come outside.

First they bring the stepladder which the elderly wife holds while the elderly husband stands on the top cleaning the downstairs windows. They then swap the stepladder for the long ladder which he wobbles climbs his way up to do the bedrooms. This is all done without any exchange of words between them, in all weathers confused. What's that all about?

I think it's rather sad in a way - it's obviously replacing something else in his life or taking his mind off something? He's missing out on life because of a compulsion to stain his wood! Do you ever speak to him?

Bet foot lady is doing a take a photo a day thing. Though why feet I have no idea

Just one small possibility - there's a thing on some US internet sites where you take a photo of your feet and post it rather than take a photo of you. (Meant to preserve some sort of anonymity etc.) So if you had board friends round, you'd take a photo of all your feet (shod or otherwise) on the table rather than a photo of faces.

A possible explanation to soothe your fevered brow.

Of course she may just be round the twist or be having an affair with a chiropodist!

Wow! So she's only a little odd rather than batshit crazy grin

Ha ha! Our neighbour (a very nice man) is on obssessive wood stainer too. The windows, the garden furniture, the sheds....he woodstains like it's going out of fashion! Doesn't give me the rage though.

I used to get the rage at a man at the bus stop every morning at 6 am (back when I was working) who would pull out an electric battery powered shaver and do the whole bathroom shaving routine in front of a gaggle of fellow early shifters.

It felt oddly inappropriate to be party to his intimate face pulling as he shaved. It's not something you expect to see in any man except your partner. A bit like a watered down version seeing someone's cum face.
Not to mention the whiney SCREEEEEOOOOOEEEEEE SCREEEEEEEEOOOOOOEEEEEEEE noise of the blasted thing!

I used to fume at it.

Mintyy Fri 24-May-13 10:39:11

Very funny op!

My old ndn used to give me the rage just because he was always fiddling about doing things. Constantly doing diy, or tinkering with his car, or sweeping up a single leaf from his driveway, or pruning his shrubs with tiny little scissors. Such a prissy, fussy, dull little man. Glad he's moved away and we have some normal slightly lazy people like us next door now.

raisah Fri 24-May-13 12:21:26

my next door neighbour does lots of outdoor chores because he doesnt have a good relationship with his wife. They are both retired and drive each other nutty and their families dont live nearby.

MyNameIsLola Fri 24-May-13 12:27:40

YANBU.

My old NDN was obsessive about cleaning his car. He used to come home from work, wash & clean his car inside and out and then spend exactly until his wife called him for dinner polishing it. Every sodding night.

It was a right old banger as well confused

freddiefrog Fri 24-May-13 12:36:39

I have a car cleaning neighbour too. Every day, rain or shine he's out there giving his car the full works.

He doesn't bother me although I was a bit open mouthed the first time I saw him get his Dyson out and hoover the front lawn after he'd cut it one day

My ndn slams his front door every single time he opens it and that gives me the rage. He doesn't do it early morning/late night so there's no reason for me to be so enraged, but it just annoys me.

nancerama Fri 24-May-13 12:38:16

Our old NDN used to rotate the wheels on his car every Sunday. I don't mean spinning them on their axels, I mean physically removing each wheel and replacing it on the other side/end of the car.

nancerama Fri 24-May-13 12:39:32

And the bloke across the street cleans his car with mr muscle every weekend. I have fear for the state of his paintwork.

OutragedFromLeeds Fri 24-May-13 12:46:10

I have NEVER seen any of my neighbours wood-staining, cleaning their windows, photographing anything, cleaning their cars, doing DIY or clearing snow.

I've now got the rage about their laziness!!

HeathRobinson Fri 24-May-13 12:52:54

I can't get cross about anybody doing their stuff quietly, but my ndn with her radio in the garden...sheesh!

HeathRobinson Fri 24-May-13 12:54:06

<misses point of thread>

FanjoPaterson Fri 24-May-13 12:59:38

I get the twitch when the ndn gets home, opens the back door and trills 'hello, husbannnnnd!' And he trills back 'evening, wifey!'

Makes me want to take a cricket bat to them.

<completely, utterly irrational>

DryCounty79 Fri 24-May-13 13:08:23

FanjoPaterson, that made me laugh! That would drive me round the bend too. I mean, who does that?!!
