No, it isn't.

It wasn't about 3 days ago when this exact thread was posted.

Get a life love.

There's not a lot of difference though. It's still fruit juices just one you add water to one you don't.

Report
usualsuspect · 21/05/2013 16:53

It's a different word for squash.

No biggie.

YABU.

How do you feel if I call it pop or cordial?

I live in a Scotland... Anything that isn't hot/water/milk is juice...

If you want to be specific that's up to you.

Thank you silly! I agree totally.

Meh does it matter? People use different words for things all the time, my mum still calls sandwiches 'pieces' Hmm

Do you really care about this or are you just looking for some mn love?

Report

When I was newly at uni in Scotland my housemate asked if I wanted some juice. I said yes please. Imagine my surprise when I was handed a glass of Irn Bru.....

Everything is called juice here because we have a toddler. Milk (cows and human), water, squash, actual juice the lot.

If someone was to offer me, an adult a glass of orange juice and to bring squash instead then I'd find that rather odd though.

YANBU!

One of my bug bears too. Quite a lot of squash doesn't come within an inch of a fruit, let alone contain a significant proportion of the real thing.

Fruit juice is juice, squash is well, squash. They aren't the same!

Report
NinaHeart · 21/05/2013 17:06

I think they are most definitely different.

YANBU. Though I sometimes call squash "cordial" but that confuses everyone down here.

My dad calls Coke and other fizzy drinks "mineral". There used to be a van coming round selling big bottles of fizzy pop, or "mineral".

Yeah well it's nothing like as disappointing as it used to be when I were a lass, when someone would ask you if you wanted Lemonade or Orangeade and then they'd give you sodding squash!

Such a let down when you expected fizz! Sad

Beer = Daddy juice Shock Wine = Mummy juice Blush

They needed a slap with a wet dishcloth for that disappointment, Balloon

You're right OP. Agreed, it's not a world problem, but it's a completely different beverage. It's be like being offered coffee and getting tea.

MrsBungle · 21/05/2013 17:18

In Scotland it's juice. Until I moved to England I'd never heard of squash. Cordial would be diluting juice. The word 'squash' annoys me. As does 'pop'.

LadyVoldemort · 21/05/2013 17:23

Well I don't give a fuck that I've been saying it wrong for years.

It's juice, ok?

SillyBlueHat · 21/05/2013 17:23

Tig - it really does annoy me! AIBU is not the place I would come to look for MN love

This does my head in as well! DSS has a horrible reflux and fruit juice always causes an instant projectile vomit incident, the only thing apart from water or milk that he can cope with is really, really watered-down squash. Unfortunately DSS' family have always referred to squash as "juice" which has caused us lots of embarrassing incidents when someone asks DSS what he'd like to drink and he replies "juice", gets given a glass of juice and pukes it all up everywhere! We have to make sure we are there to clarify things whenever DSS is asked...

Why am I not surprised that the Scots call squash juice? Grin

Fillyjonk Grin

In our house, anything alcoholic is called "yuk juice" by DS.
