AIBU?

anti-FFs and pro choice?

I have seen some, not loads, but a definite number of extremely anti FF people on here. The ones that think FF mothers are irresponsible and owe their child more

Similarly, there are a lot of pro choice (abortion) people on here

I just don't really understand how you can be pro choice but against women choosing for themselves how to feed their baby. Shouldn't women be allowed to choose what to do with their bodies in every way conceivable?

Aware is lots more complicated than this, just wanted to open up a bit of a debate (NOT BUNFIGHT)

(Am EBF-ing and pro choice but curious)

Hmm

You didn't want a bunfight? Don't post about two of the most emotive topics not just on MN but in the world.

::walks away muttering about people claiming to not want a bunfight::

Nobody is stopping them. Just because people post opinions on here it (and in RL) doesn't mean they have to listen to them. You do what you want to do at the end of the day.

I'm v pro choice. Abortion should be a right no matter what the circs.

I used to be very anti ff. I certainly wouldn't ff my own kids and haven't. However now dc1 is older my perspective is a little different. Bf is best but there are so much worse parenting choices you can make. In the uk, not bf might make a small difference to health or no difference. Smoking around a baby for example is so much worse.
I am very anti nestle etc. I'm not anti mums who end up ff - it's none of my business Grin

I am pro choice, and pro letting a woman decide how to feed her own baby.

Well done on getting the 2 things most likely to start a bunfight into the one post though. Quite an achievement.

And what about people who choose to give their child fruit shoots

I am pro choice and not anti FF so its not actually an angle I had considered. Everyone will probably tell you that you are stirring the shit but in actual fact I think its a very interesting topic of debate and hopefully will return some intelligent responses.

I think the fact that there is a born, independently-living baby, and not a gestating foetus who may potentially be born, changes some people's views about prioritising.

However, I see nothing wrong with FF myself, just theorising why its not necessarily that connected to pro-choice views.

But you are confusing choice and informed choice.

I really don't, but I know they're emotive
What I would like is some healthy debate, as it is a question I've been asking myself

I'm pro choice but believe breast feeding is best. I'm not anti ff as I was unable to breastfeed dd4 successfully and until I gave up she was failing to thrive. watching her turn into a happy contented baby from the way she was made me realise that it is what is right for you as a family is what is important. If that means ff then so be it.

as long as the baby is given safe milk (i.e. with clean water if it is formula) rather than beefburgers, does it matter how it is produced?

do people really rush up to mums bottle feeding and berate them for not breast-feeding? OMG.

BTW I am pro-choice.

I have no opinion, however, on how others feed their babies. Is the baby being fed? Job done!

Yes - my MIL (she assumed bottle of EBM was formula and went crazy) but she is pro life also!

I'm pro-body autonomy, so I'm pro-choice, anti-circumcision, pro-assisted dying. I don't give a flying fuck how someone feeds their child to be honest. I FF my DD.

There's a vast difference between promoting the benefits of BF and thinking those who FF are irresponsible, too.
