AIBU?

To be happy I've caught her stealing?

Cleaner in my place of work is known as a thief. She will however take money, in small quantities with leaves not enough evidence to do anything about even though everybody knows. Recently I left my tips behind the bar in a glass, I knew there was over £10 in it as I had counted it out and thought about changing it into a note, but didn't. Next day, there was only £5. But as there was no evidence as to how much was in the glass in the first place, there was nothing my manager could do. Lots of incidents like this gets annoying.

Alongside this, bottles of beer have been going missing from the shelf at work. One or two bottles every week so that it's gradual and regular. Even after raising my suspicions of our known thief, my manager seemed to think that it was someone else (whole other story, perhaps bullying tbh) and didn't seem to want to investigate the possibility of it being our thieving cleaner. So tonight I go into the office when it's quiet and look through CCTV (I'm in a position of authority that allows me to do this, so wasn't being underhand myself) and after watching about half an hour of sped up footage, I clearly see the cleaner going into the shelf, taking a bottle, unzipping her top and putting the bottle in. Totally clear as day. We're talking about over £100 of stock over the weeks, and I've caught her red handed.

I personally enjoy this because of the fact that she's taken money from me, but aside from that, I have absolutely no time for thieves. It's the lowest of the low IMO

Am I being unreasonable to be enjoying this? :D

YABU to be so gleeful.

YANBU to feel a sense of satisfaction that the person who stole from you has been caught.

YANBU, the anger at what she has done is making you feel like this.

How many others has she stolen from?

Immediate dismissal?

I dunno... people steal for the weirdest reasons. I'd enjoy feeling vindicated, but ultimately I'd feel sorry for her as she's going to loose her job and find it really hard to claim benefits or other employment, and may go to prison. That's sad, not just for her, but for her family. They didn't steal but will suffer, and that won't be nice for them.

Everyone has ha money stolen from them at at least one point. She's also been making another person's life misery with this, because she was only taking the beers while on shift with one other person, so basically deliberately framing an innocent person. Behaviour like that has earned it's punishment, so no I don't feel sorry for her in the slightest. If you don't want to lose your job, you don't steal. It's not difficult.

I'd be feeling sad. Sad for her because she will be hauled over the coals and probably lose her job for evidence of stealing one bottle of beer in a pub, sad that her life is such that she feels she has to steal, sad that she works somewhere that she has no understanding friends, sad that you leave money out despite knowing there is a thief about - its all pretty sad all round.

Hmm, I can see why you would be glad the thief has been caught - the stealing ought to stop now. But I am a bit bemused that 'everyone knows' she's a thief but the only evidence has been this one bit of footage. Are you sure she's the only thief?

And kleptronic, I looked through 3 different days where bottles have gone missing, and you can see her going Into the shelf each day, when she has no reason to.

And even if it was just the one, its still theft and instant dismissal.

YANBU to be pleased you have evidence and can hopefully put a stop to it.

YABU if you are getting some kind of perverse pleasure out of the whole thing.

YABU to take pleasure in this. My da owned pubs when I was growing up and had to let a couple of staff go as they were caught thieving. He took no joy in it at all, it was pretty bloody awful for all involved.

It isn't something you can ignore, but it's hardly a happy occasion either.

Tentative, you did not say originally that you had evidence of three occasions when a theft had occurred.

I wonder why action was not taken when the first evidence was gathered?

Neither do I think it is reasonable to say that she has framed anyone else on the basis of what you have posted here.
