AIBU?

To feel deliriously happy to be leaving the worst job I have ever had!

Just found out this morning that I got a new job at an awesome organization allowing me finally to get the hell out of the worst job I have ever had in my life. I actually feel physically nauseous with relief right now (I'm not a high-strung person but my job was that bad). I'm terrified of facing my boss (the reason for me leaving) tomorrow to tell him, as I won't be giving more than two days notice (I feel bad but it just worked out this way). Has anyone else out there survived a truly god-awful job experience?

Envy

Will they be ok with 2 days notice ?
Do you mean new job starts Monday ?
What does your contract say ?

Make sure you get a formal exit interview so you can flag up all problems for next poor Sod to work there Grin

& well done !!

Congratulations!

Sounds totally reasonable.

I work in California, an "at will" state which means employer or employee can end employment at any time for any reason -no contracts!

The temptation to be brutally honest in the exit interview is great, but my boss (the owner) has been running his business this way for 15 years. He knows exactly what he has been doing, he is being sued by ex-employees at any given moment since I've been there.

So, I'll smack a polite smile on my face and apologize for the lack of notice while he tries to make me feel like a horrible person for leaving him in the lurch.

Thanks! Seriously I think I will have PTSD form this job for some time to come.

Terrified of facing the boss that you hate to tell him you're leaving??
I would be like a child on Christmas eve, why smack on the polite face? Be brutal.

Congratulations Flowers

Do be honest at the exit interview. Shitty people need to be told the truth from time to time, it's good for them. You would be doing him a favour tbh.

I survived a horrendous job. It nearly killed me, I wasa wreck. It destroyed my confidence and life. It was that bad. If I had t left I would have had a nervous breakdown. Leaving was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with the new job.

YANBU! Well done on getting out Thanks

Do be honest at your exit interview, it probably won't make any difference to how that boss does things, but trust me you'll be happier for having had your say!

My last exit interview ended with wanker boss saying "Well Cock, the door will always be open here for you" with accompanying smarmy smile.
I still feel Grin about my reply over 6 years later - "Not while you're on the other side of it thanks!"

I begged for an exit interview with a higher up at one job I had. Never got it as I think they knew what I was going to say. Happiest day of my life. Night shifts, weekends at a badly run homeless shelter. We had deaths. It was utterly dreadful. I even joked about using one of their food services so that I couldn't work there again (they had a two year rule) no matter how desperate I was for a job.

Unless otherwise stated in a contract i thought you had to give your employer 1 weeks notice?
