24 hrs NHS on bbc - made me want to lose weight

... Just been watching it on I-player. Having been really slim all my life I'm now about 2 stone bigger than I should be at 47. Watching this programme has made me feel really motivated to lose weight - starting to feel I have a public duty to the NHS not to live an unhealthy lifestyle. Actually the whole programme worried me. It really made me realise how the NHS won 't cope with our increasing levels of obesity as the population ages...

Did anyone else watch this programme with a growing sense of worry about the future of healthcare in the UK?

The government should be ashamed, very ashamed. They are killing it.. And for what ? Money... Who will that money that should have been spent on patients go to then?

Well some of it will go to the shareholders of the private companies which take over various services within the NHS. But even without actual cuts, the NHS will hugely struggle to meet our future health needs if we carry on getting fatter and fatter as a nation. According to the programme the West Midlands has the fattest population in Europe. So fat that they've had to put severe restrictions on the criteria for weight loss surgery. If they didn't apparently so many people would qualify for it that it would clean out NHS budgets for the entire region! Shock

Agree. Stopping smoking too. That man in the Cath lab was typical.. He was advised to stop and wouldn't accept it yet still wanted an answer to what was wrong with him!!

The program was made in a rather snide way to highlight these issues. The woman going for weight loss surgery was pictured sitting chatting with her adult dd who had already had the op. the camera panned to the sachets of sauce f rom KFC on the table, and include Ethernet woman saying that she didn't know what she'd do with her weekends after surgery as previously they had spent every weekend eating out...
