Sanity check...

Sometimes my ex makes me question my own sanity so doing this as an AIBU

So situation is this. Usually my kids go up to see their mum alternate weekends on the train. It's about a 90 mile trip in the car which on a Friday is hell. Usually works well. Except this weekend DD is busy and DS is too young to get the train on his own.

I suggest driving up with DS and meeting up at a convenient place. I'll do 75% of the driving on the Friday since I will pop in at a mates afterwards for dinner. On Sunday if she could meet me halfway at the services we've used a few times.

Ex decides this is not the best way at all. She's suggested a place which is much closer to her and involves me driving through country roads and will take me 2x as long. All because Bing maps says it's the shortest way between us. As I just pointed out to her, no human looking at a map would ever choose that way! It might be technically the shortest route but it's 3x harder to drive and twice as long in time. She now thinks I'm being awkward.

The services we've used several times before is a longer trip for her by 5 miles but is motorway all the way for both of us. So 10 miles return...it's not like I'm asking for the moon and back!?!

Bear in mind this is the woman who went from Manchester to Newcastle via Scotland because she thought the Sat nav wasn't trustworthy enough. And the woman who cannot understand that if you usually turn right off the motorway to get somewhere that if you come from the other direction that you need to turn LEFT. Turning right will just get you lost!!!!!

So....AIBU????? Honestly....sometimes she makes me wonder if I am just missing something completely!!!!

Given the ludicrously slow route my SAT NAV suggest for getting to my parents, avoiding the decent road and going through tiny villages instead YA almost certainly NBU

I'd send her a nice polite email explaining this, never use the phone to get people to back down. I'm very much married and I still leave notes and send Emails to DH in the other room when he isn't listening.

Also try google maps, Bing is thick and google may give you times to back up your argument.

Oh this is all over email. I'd have probably lost the will to live by now if it were done over the phone.

Google Maps did pick the two most sensible ways and even the third way it chose was better than the route suggested by Bing. I sent a link to my ex who claims she cannot open the link.

YANBU - tell ex that you have found 2 routes and to pick one. And if she really can't open the long, then take a screen shot and email it over embedded into the email with requested read receipt.

Can you not suggest that she has both the following weekends with her children as a compromise, so have two in a row just not this awkward one?

Normally I'd have suggested that but the following weekend we have a family wedding to attend so that's out too. Oh and the fact she finds having the kids two weekends on the run too tiring.

Tell her even if your route turns out to be less convenient for her you are doing 75% on the Friday so she can be a bit more flexible on the Sunday.

Goodness she is thick and gives women a bad name. You are well out of it if thats what her sense of direction is like. Sorry nothing useful to add, just a bit stunned by her sense of direction.
