Fantastic film. Saw it last night and want to see it again already. Although without DH this time so I don't have him muttering 'what have I seen her in? I know I've seen her in something!' whenever Alice Eve came onscreen...

Nice to see Noel Clarke in it too - what a horrible decision he had to make

The plotting wasn't brilliant and it did feel like most of it was a setup for the next film (ie the war) but Benedict was great (and Leonard Nimoy of course!)

Leonard Nimoy looked very old, I said to dh that they should film him saying lots of random lines so they can slot them into films as they come up.

Not got used to Spock being all kissy kissy.

That film was GOLD for the cast!

I saw it yesterday as well. As a long time trekkie, i thought the film was amazing. Absolutely loved it. All the characters were played fantastically well and there wasn't a moment in it that was dull

my only gripe is that Bones seems to be put aside, when in TOS he was pretty prominent.

I saw it yesterday, also a long time trekkie!

Must admit I was disappointed, it felt disjointed and the interactions seemed to be based on the fact we know from TOS etc how they interact rather than being built up within this new lot of actors. Also we saw it 3D and they seemed to have spent more time on the 3D effects than thinking about the story!

Despite that is was still enjoyable as an action type film and benedict cumberbatch was great and I did cry a bit when they did the dying thing (back to front! didn't see that coming) and of course leonard nimoy ROCKS.

I have to admit I came home and watched a TOS episode to soothe myself afterwards, and happily it was the one where kirk gets to hold a giant phallus so that cheered me right up

I am Very Worried about Vulcan. Iirc, they destroyed it in the last film, and one of Spock's parents died on Vulcan - and in this film they were talking about New Vulcan.

But in the original series, both Spock's parents make appearances, and when he goes back to Vulcan for his Pon Farr, it is Vulcan he goes to, his childhood home, not New Vulcan.

I thought this film was going to involve some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff where they went back and prevented the destruction of Vulcan etc. But it didn't.

Right at the end, when they were heading off on the Five Year Mission, and Spock was asking where they were going to head for, I really wanted Kirk to say, 'Second star on the left and straight on 'til morning'.

1st film. why was Chekov there? he didnt appear in the series till season 2.

Stuff like chekov being there can be explained by the changes to the timeline due to nero.

For eg TOS spock and kirk didn't get together on the enterprise and start their 5 year mission until they were in their 30s, whereas this new lot are in their 20s.

I think if you are a die hard TOS fan you have to try and separate it in your mind and just see it as another action type film.

And I couldn't agree more about spock and uhura wrong wrong wrong just so wrong.

and what about Captain pike? I know, delving too deep in a fictional thing, too pedantic here, and itll all be explained by a timey wimey anomoly type thing in the end!

like Worf in the best ST episode EVER 'trials and tribulations' when the others ask him about the difference in the appearance of the tos Klingons and him and ask if theres a genetic mutaion or something and he says 'we dont talk about it'. Bah humbug!

Benedict was fine despite the punching, he was sexy enough to cope.

Am feeling like a really rubbish fan now. Which episode was the second star thing in? I am rewatching at the mo so will keep an eye out for it!

Loved the film, DH and I agreed it was better than the last and we loved that. Karl Urban has Bones down so pat that even DeForest Kelly couldn't beat him in a contest, and it would be great to see him back as the third-part of the adventuring duo team they have going at the moment though he was running very fast at the beginning

I was hoping they'd get Michael Dorn to be one of the Klingons, after all he played his own grandfather in The Undiscovered Country so I don't see why he couldn't have played allowing for the younger Kirk Worf's great-grandfather or whatever.

Wasn't the Tribble a nice touch, especially as it's going to be Klingons next OI JJ! GET MICHAEL DORN ON THE PHONE and they could be a useful plot point.

I also muttered the 'second star..' line at the time and I'm sure the book will be around. But maybe Kirk isn't much or a reader.
