Just that. Host mum asked if t would be ok. Googled it when I got home, and it's a horror about a door to hell. It's a 12A. I said no, my dd would hate it and would have nightmares. Would your 9yo watch that???

I went to see it with young adults with learning disabilities, they thought it was hilarious. I was terrified but also found it kind of funny, which is how I generally am with horror films. I wouldn't have chosen to watch it myself though.

I think I would have found it too scary at 9

Yanbu I wouldn't want a 9yo to watch it

DeepRedBetty Sat 11-May-13 14:55:26

Yanbu. I didn't let them watch Shaun of the Dead until they were 12.

It has some funny and scary moments.

My nine year old loves horror films and would enjoy it, my 13 year old probably wouldn't like it.

Good lord YANBU

Waay too scary

Wabbitty Sat 11-May-13 15:21:36

Are you talking about the 2009 film or the 2001 film?

My DD watches a film called HOLES about some American teens at a Detention Camp (doesn't sound like a fun film to me but she likes it)

She's reading the book at school- IIRC they are comparing the film/book.

DD is nearly 11 yo (Yr 6)

My dd watched it aged 12 and didn't sleep properly for nearly a month ... Terrifying

It's worth checking what Wabbitty said, OP - just in case the host mum has got the wrong one. The 2001 The Hole is definitely not a film I would like a 9 year old to see.

TidyDancer Sat 11-May-13 15:43:22

Yeah, check which film you're dealing with. The Thora Birch film is a no-no.

outtolunchagain Sat 11-May-13 15:49:01

Are you sure it's not Holes which is a children's book by Louis Sacher

LadyFlumpalot Sat 11-May-13 15:55:45

Holes with Shia LeBouef - yes.
The Hole - I won't watch it and I'm 29...

There's the scary hole then holes but there is a 2009 film called the hole too. Not seen it but it's aimed at the preteen market I think,

ShadeofViolet Sat 11-May-13 16:21:39

I am crap with scary films and would probably find it too scary now!

Slurpling Sat 11-May-13 17:13:36

if it's The Hole with thora birch and keira knightley then no way! it's v dark and some bits are really not suitable for 9 year olds! meant for about age 13+ I think. if it's Holes then maybe ok, haven't seen that one but it's a great kids' book.

makemineamalibuandpineapple Sat 11-May-13 17:16:06

If it's the 2001 version then definitely not. It is quite creepy in places and the part at the beginning where Thora Birch screams always makes me jump.

CocktailQueen Sat 11-May-13 17:35:04

Hmm, I think the 2009 one with bruce dern. Will google holes too. Host mum has agreed to show another film!

CocktailQueen Sat 11-May-13 17:44:37

Have checked out all the holes and it's def the 2009 one. Yuk. I wouldn't watch it....
On dd's last sleepover they told ghost stories to each other then she was too scared to sleep in her own bed for weeks, so am not keen to have a repeat of that!
Thanks all.
