To think it's not acceptable to dental receptionists to sit there loudly bitching about patients?

I've just been to the dentist. She was running late so I had to sit in the waiting room for half an hour.

At the practice I go to, each day the receptionists phone up the people that have appointments booked the following day to check that they are still ok to attend their appointment, and to jog their memory that they've booked it. And that's what the receptionists were doing today.

One receptionist phoned someone, I heard their name as she asked for them when they answered the phone (and this is a small town, everyone know everyone else). Admittedly it was a long phone call, and the receptionist had to explain a lot about why they were calling; I think the person on the other end was perhaps hard of hearing. There was then a bit of faffing whilst the other person decided whether or not they wanted the appointment, turned out they did, and the receptionist put the phone down. I'd say the call was no longer than maybe three minutes.

The two receptionists then spent about 5 minutes bitching about this customer. The woman who had phoned them was mimicking them and was huffing and puffing about how indecisive they'd been and basically what a pain in the arse they were.

AIBU to think this isn't acceptable. We all moan about work/clients/customers at times, I know that, but to do it on a reception desk in front of other customers isn't appropriate IMO. They are both very miserable rude receptionists and it seems that they don't like customers very much.

Don't know if this makes any difference but it's a combined NHS and Private practice.

Nomadic is green with hairy hands

TheChaoGoesMu Thu 09-May-13 12:59:03

Oh for goodness sake, you know nothing about me at all, Nothing At All. Please dont try to make this into a race issue when it Clearly is Not. Not nice behaviour. I understand how peoples experience forms them, we're all a product of our history one way or another, but no one can see you. I'm sorry, but you are being illogical.

JackieOHHH Thu 09-May-13 12:59:53

And how the hell do you know any of us have never been persecuted?
FFS you need help love.

Im incredibly bemused about how this thread has turned out, is it a joke, because its funny.

Feel sorry for the OP and the Hijack though.

BabsCholmondeley Thu 09-May-13 13:00:31

Actually, should i have used the word Hijack, might be accused of something.

alienbanana Thu 09-May-13 13:02:11

What is it with threads being derailed within the first few posts at the moment?

It's making MN all ranty and it's fucking irritating.

SpottyTeacakes Thu 09-May-13 13:02:49

Nomadic I think you just didn't understand the point of the topic that you're posting in and so people thought you were being rude smile

Loulybelle Thu 09-May-13 13:03:21

Nomadic, i'll explain it, you said something to the OP, to her it sounded odd, you thought she was being rude and calling you strange, she wasnt, then it all got really weird, involving race and various other things, huge understanding i think.

Does that clear it up?

Nomadic - i think when you posted your first post on the thread it read as if you were being sarcastic. Toung in cheek, y'know? A bit like ..... ''so what do you want us to do about it''?

If you genuinely meant ''what advice do you want?'' then that was sweet of you, and it was mis understood.

However - your accusations of (in order) agression, atrocity, racism and now pulling someone up on their choice of expression are just digging you into a very deep hole.

fluffyraggies Thu 09-May-13 13:06:15

x post nomadic.

LayMizzRarb Thu 09-May-13 13:06:27

If you shout 'racism' just because someone does not share your point of view, then you clearly do not understand racism.
You do not know what colour I am, and do not know my ethnic background. I understand discrimination very much.
Being any colour, or from any ethnic origin does not give you a monopoly on having insight, and empathy for those who suffer on a daily basis from discrimination by others.
You sound very angry about something. Maybe you would like to tell us and maybe we can help?

VivaLeBeaver Thu 09-May-13 13:06:53

Excellnt thread.

<shameless placemarking>

QuintessentialOHara Thu 09-May-13 13:09:28

You asked OP what advice she wanted.

This was a strange thing to do.

1. If she KNEW what advice she wanted, she would have no need to post!
2. Your first post insinuated that the OP was wrong for posting if she was not after specific advice. Like you turned yourself into the thread police.

Thereafter, it just turned strange where you were throwing accusations of racism, bullying, and ganging up on you, and aggression.

MissTapestry Thu 09-May-13 13:11:06

This thread is fucking brilliant! grin
Nordic YABVV Odd!
