To think I just had the cheekiest taxi driver?

Took my daughter into work to meet my colleagues, got a taxi there and back (different drivers obv.) Noticed on the way back we were taking a really weird route. Taxi driver eventually stops at some random house, says, 'I'll be two seconds love.' Runs into house comes back out 5 minutes later with a lunchbox and goes, 'sorry love had to grab this, I won't charge you for the detour.' Oh, okay, well that's alright then. hmm

I did pay what I usually pay. AIBU?

YANBU, he should have asked you if you minded or gone between jobs.

Sparhawk Tue 07-May-13 17:27:20

I wouldn't have minded if he'd have asked me actually, at least I got to nose at his house nasty curtains. grin

I was on a bus a few months ago when the driver stopped the vehicle and popped off to use a cash point.

Amazing squoosh think yours tops mine. grin

I've been on a bus where the driver has stopped and used a public toilet which I suppose you can't moan at. YANBU tho he should've at least asked you could've been in a hurry!

Luckily DD didn't need a feed or a change.

Husband and I once got a taxi home after a night out. 25 mile journey (out into the country!) so we had agreed a price before we left and all was well. Until the guy got 15 miles into the journey and suddenly decided he wasn't going to make it out and back with the fuel he had left in his car so turned around and took us back to where we left off. Lazy dick.

We were on a taxi transfer from the airport to hotel in Turkey, at about 11pm so it was pitch black, when the taxi driver pulls over on a road in the mountains... In the taxi with me were my DPs, DD, DSis, DNephew and DNiece. We all started panicking as a car pulls up alongside us, and a dark shadowy figure gets out of said car and hops into the passenger seat...

We were all a bit confused by it but said nothing, and assumed it was his wife, as they chatted the entire way to our hotel, as we all just sat there.
He hadn't even mentioned it, or asked if we minded, nothing!

I had a taxi driver in South America - Venezuela actually- who stopped off at the liquor store to get a bottle of Rum!

I was too young and naive to say anything about drink driving but I would now grin

Same trip I was in a tiny biplane with half the floor missing - I could see the rainforest half a mile beneath me.

Dont know how I survived that trip . .

I've had taxi drivers stop to score drugs, so what you're describing doesn't sound too bad.

Sparhawk Tue 07-May-13 18:22:23

Okay, you're all making me feel miles better about him now. wink

Thumbtack Which flight was that?? (is mentally trying to work out if it was an episode of aircrash investigaion...)

As for the taxi driver at least you got to be nosy at his house!

Thumbtack Tue 07-May-13 18:39:35

Jerseyspud - if I remember correctly and it was a long time ago it was on the way to the angel falls? It may have been the same flight but at one point we also landed on a remote airstrip with the remains of a crashed airplane! Freaked out is not the word!

I was on a bus where the driver just stopped to buy some oranges at the greengrocers. And then proceeded to tell us all that the greengrocer had been showing him his holiday photos, and how delicious his oranges were. Arrived 10 mins late to work, I was not amused. Was going to ring the bus company, but got talked out of it by my ex colleague.

I was on a bus where the driver stopped to help a blind passenger cross over a very busy road when she got off. It took ages but he got a round of applause when he got back on the bus.

Two stories, both from our honeymoon in Malta.

One bus driver just stopped, got out and wandered off. He was gone for aaaages - probably getting on for 1/2 an hour. God knows what he got up to.

And, on our very first bus journey on our first day there, the driver just veered across lanes and almost causally crumpled some poor sod's car against a wall. Bus screeched to a halt, driver stuck his head out the window and gave the guy an earful, then roared off.

EauRouge that's lovely.

No random detours, but I once had a taxi driver tell me once we got to where I was going he could take me to a quiet place nearby and I could give him a blow job instead of payment.

I declined, unsurprisingly.

I didn't go there often, but I saw him once again about 8 years later. I didn't get into his taxi and got the bus instead..

My old next door neighbour was a bus driver whose route passed our houses. He used to park up outside my house every morning and nip into his house and come out eating toast. The look on all his passengers faces was priceless!
