AIBU?

... to expect DDs to wear ACTUAL pants?

Maybe I am just seriously out of touch, but all three of my DDs (18, 15 and 12) wear leggings like they are pants!!!

Now I think leggings are lovely when worn under a long top or a dress, but DDs (and the majority of girls I see on the street) seem to think they are a substitute for actual trousers. They wear them with normal length tops and jackets, which only go to their waists, leaving their bottoms and legs totally exposed in these leggings. Luckily DDs' leggings are thick enough that you can't see their underwear, but there have been soooo many times when I've been tempted to grab a teenage girl in the street, frogmarch her into a shop and supervise her buying a pair of jeans!

Whenever I question my DDs about the 'leggings as pants' craze, I get the whole 'Oh mum, you don't understand', reply!

So, do your DDs do the same? And AIBU to expect girls to wear ACTUAL pants?!

You mean as trousers? I initially thought they wore them as underwear!

Agree this seems to be increasingly common, but they'll go out of fashion again soon enough and your DDs will be wearing giant, baggy culottes instead!

My DD does wear leggings alone, but then she's 3 months, so can get away with it! Grin

are you American OP - only I thought this was going to be about knickers, not trousers!

leggings as trousers is nothing new, I thought I was going to learn of a new trend for no knickers under leggings (please tell me this is not so, aside from anything else it would be uncomfortable, no?)

dd isnt allowed past the front door in leggings and short top combo. She has a lovely figure but has sadly inherited my backside, and no way am I having my dd sporting the camels hoof look. They look fine with a dress or long vest top tho. Also makes sure she buys a size up so they don't look too thin.

As long as there are knickers underneath I really don't care Grin

DD2 is wearing her black disco pants today. She really appreciated DH and I singing 'You're the One that I Want' to her

I cannot tell you how NU you are being. I don't care if you have an arse like Pippa Middletom shagged Brad Pitt, cover it up. I hate it.

Oh dear- didn't mean to cause confusion!! I'm not American, just northern, and we refer to trousers as pants Blush

Ugh, fortunately so far I haven't come across no knickers under leggings, touch wood!!

DribbleWiper ahh I long for the day baggy culottes replace this skin tight leggings phase!

I've not come across no knickers under leggings either but i have seen some interesting patterns on knickers due to some leggings being so see through. My dds would only wear leggings under longer tops as they've seen a few sights too.

My 8 yr old will wear leggings with a top that goes to her waist. She looks beautiful in them. It is not like her bum is hanging out.

Benjamin Cute on little girls but my eldest DD is 18!! A lot of teens aren't straight up and down, but curvy, and these skin tight leggings show everything!!

MrsTerryPratchett What does NU mean? Blush

In the North of England 'pants' are regularly referred to as a substitute for trousers. I wear leggings, sometimes with a tunic, sometimes with just a top and long cardi. To my knowledge, no one has ever averted their eyes in horror but they are free to do so if they wish :)

Isn't that a 90s revival?
On the right person it's better than the oversized t-shirt look.

As long as it's not replaced by shell suits...

sunlight I love it when my DDs wear leggings and tunics, it's when their bottoms are out for the world to see that I start to get irritated/confused!

mrsjay I was just about to post something similar.

I used to think that if I could get hold of all my mother's photos of me in the late 70s / early 80s I would destroy them. But I didn't she wouldn't let me and now I'm glad they are still around.

If for no other reason that it gave my DDs hours of mirth when they saw what their mother used to wear. It also made me more tolerant of what they wore when I remembered how daft I used to look. Blush Grin

If you're going to wear your leggings without a top that covers your bum then surely they look better without knickers to avoid a vpl?
I think they look daft worn like that, they're really just glorified footless tights.

I sometimes wear leggings like that, as I said - I wear them because they are comfy! I don't think my bum is any more 'out' than it would be if I was wearing skinny jeans or a tight skirt but as I said, I don't really care if it offends people!
