over basic cleanliness when dealing with chicken pox spots?

DD (2yo) has chicken pox and most of the spots are drying out. We have to put a cream on twice a day, which is something I have done for the last week. DP was about to do it today for the first time.

I asked him to wash his hands before he put the cream on to try to avoid infecting the spots (he had ben vigorously scratching his balls). He said that was an exaggeration (I was being OCD) but did wash his hands. I then said that I tried to use different fingers to put the cream on to avoid infecting one spot from the other, but he said there was no way he was doing that.

He had just done all the spots in her genital area, including inside her bottom and I asked him if he could use the other hand for her face, but he then used the other hand to scratch his balls, so I asked him to wash his hands again. At which point he said he would either do it his way or he wouldn't do it all.

AIBU to think that a grown man should know to wash his hands and not touch his balls while dealing with spots that can get infected? I know I ended up giving him a lot of suggestions which can be aggravating but was I supposed to just let him scratch his balls and then touch DD's spots without saying anything?

I showed DP this thread, apparently his favourite comment is "minging minger". He then proceeded to scratch his balls and offer a photo for the delectation of the MN crowd.

So I took quoteunquote's advice and showed him photos of infected spots and that did the trick!!! RESULT thanks to MN! Turns out he though that an infected spot would just be a bigger spot. He's been washing his hands all day long!

I know this a serious thread but I am giggling away at some of the responses!

He is an idiot if he thinks scratching his balls before touching his daughter's face is appropriate. If the doctor telling him not to do it is what it takes then I'd do it.

Other people's lives! Would you scratch your fanny whilst standing naked applying cream to your dd's vagina? Er probably not.

RenterNomad Sun 05-May-13 22:31:02

You see, he can do it (keep clean). That makes this hypocrisy about the chicken pox spots all the more mean and selfish. sad.

Booboostoo Sun 05-May-13 21:41:34

He has this obsession with his glasses, they have to be immaculately clean...

Purplecatti Sun 05-May-13 18:55:06

Rub your nekkid bum on a plate before serving him food on it and make sure he sees you doing it

RenterNomad Sun 05-May-13 16:32:34

Aha! Today was the first time he'd had to do it, and he hoped to make it the last!

Tell him you're on to him and that riskin infecting an innocent child, just so he could not have to do it again, is more disgusting than the hygiene issue.

Yuck yuck yuck, yanbu.

I always did face first and arms, legs and body and then did the gential area last when putting cream on kids pox spots.

Just eww at ball scratching and then putting cream on his dd.

Chicken pox or no chicken pox, he shouldn't be scratching his naked balls before touching his daughters face! What a minging minger. LTB.

YummyCalpol Sun 05-May-13 15:45:06

Eurgh, he sounds a real catch!

HenD19 Sun 05-May-13 15:32:38

I am crying laughing at this thread! V funny but gross so yanbu

Maggie111 Sun 05-May-13 15:27:57

Urgh! You can't make him be reasonable, so yes he's probably right that if you want to be so fussy you should do it yourself (DH and I have the same arguments!)

So - yes you should do it yourself but he should know that he is revolting to the rest of society!!

Google images of infected chicken pox spots, and show him what you are worrying might happen to your DD.

He just hasn't completely understood the implications of his carelessness.

once he has seen what will happen, he will have to have a rethink.

ew so he is naked and scratching his balls in front of a 2 year old, that is really innappropriate op.

IneedAsockamnesty Sun 05-May-13 11:32:30

Is he really that thick that he needs a doctor to explain basic hygiene to him?

Christ alive no wonder its hard to get an appointment with a gp these days if there waiting rooms are full of people requesting info about things they should have learnt by the age of 4

Tailtwister Sun 05-May-13 11:29:53

Yuck. If he's so cavalier about hygiene when in this case, what on earth is he like with other things, like washing his hands before handling food etc?

YANBU OP. If you can't trust him to treat your daughter's spots hygienically, then I think you should do it all yourself.

Booboostoo Sun 05-May-13 11:23:12

I completely see your point but I said I would ask what people thought on Mumsnet and he said he couldn't care less. I'd also have to ask in French which would add to the comedy factor!

burberryqueen Sun 05-May-13 10:53:52

i wouldnt really want to mention a naked nut scratching soapdodger applying cream to a two year old to the doctor personally.

Booboostoo Sun 05-May-13 10:51:03

He was naked (which I am fine with) and he does scratch his balls a lot (which is OK, I am not the ball scratching police), but I don't see the need to do it right before touching the spots! He doesn't see my point and wants a doctor to tell him he shouldn't do it! AIBU to ask the doc to tell him????

Buzzardbird Sun 05-May-13 09:23:08

What is he? An ape?

FarBetterNow Sun 05-May-13 09:22:44

I'm seceretly hoping that he is getting chicken pox spots on his balls!

He is gross.

alienbanana Sun 05-May-13 09:17:30

Why the fuck does he think its ok to scratch his balls before putting cream on his daughter's genitals?
