Putting away the clean laundry with OH and come across one of his socks that has been through the wash several times.
He begs me not to throw it away, says that it has life left in it. In the end, we agree i force him to let Mumsnet decide.

So Mumsnet, what shall be the fate of this sock?

The Offending Article

NOTE: This sock has just come out of the wash and is, theoretically clean

My even lower standards ex-waller DH says no too.

BadDayAtTheOrifice Sat 20-Apr-13 16:01:42

WolefGenius you have just reminded me of the long johns that are in DH's drawer. Also owned since he was 14 (and he's 41 this year) they sound remarkably similar to the PJ's you talk of. DH is at the football. I could get rid.
Why do they hold onto these things?

WhereYouLeftIt Sat 20-Apr-13 16:11:52

The only thing I would use such a sock for is polishing the brass on the front door and only then because nothing used for that task survives more than three uses. Or just bin it and put it out of its misery.

I'm clearly in the minority here because I'd keep it. If it's a work boot sock, then it's ideal. It looks awful, yes, but it is clean and it's for working in.

No point having nice pristine white socks to shove inside workboots and go toiling in, is there?

grin 23-19 was our code for shit explosion in the nappy area all hands on deck!

manticlimactic Sat 20-Apr-13 16:20:01

Why on earth would he want to keep just one sock?? As a wank sock perhaps? shock grin

QOD Sat 20-Apr-13 16:23:09

I'm with manti.

It's clearly his wank sock that his mum bought him

SacreBlue Sat 20-Apr-13 16:29:35

But who has work socks that are white to start off with?

You need a big thick knitted by Granny dark green or dark blue woolen sock for work boots, not a wee namby-pamby white once upon a time gym sock!

Tell him to man up with possible risk he asks you to knit...

ImTooHecsyForYourParty Sat 20-Apr-13 16:29:54

If his wank sock is that colour, he needs to see his GP sharpish!

SacreBlue Sat 20-Apr-13 16:30:21

Urgh x post with wank sock *shudder

johnworf Sat 20-Apr-13 16:34:25

Out of interest, does he wear shoes when he's out and about? hmm

Off with it's head IMHO.

Has it been changed much by going through the wash? If so, shudder to think what it was like before. If not, it's time to change your detergent.

If it smells fresh and your OH wants to wear it, let him keep it. Once it is in his boot no-one will see it. Lovely pets on your Flickr by the way.

BabyMakesTheYoniGoStretchy Sat 20-Apr-13 16:53:48

It looks quite malevolent.

TheSeventhHorcrux Sat 20-Apr-13 17:01:26

The border collie and Bengal cat are ours smile

Is it in shreds in the bin yet?

Mandy2003 Sat 20-Apr-13 17:30:59

Oh, that's disgusting!!!

SueDoku Sat 20-Apr-13 18:07:55

Poor thing - put it out of its misery NOW.....! Anything else is just cruel...

HoneyDragon Sat 20-Apr-13 18:28:11

Why would any rational human being want to put their actual foot in that?

Is it a Samson and Delilah thing? If you kill his special sock will his nipples fall off or something?

Actually are you sure it's an existing sock. Or is one you threw away already? A zombie sock from beyond the grave?

holidaysarenice Sat 20-Apr-13 18:31:31

I will give your husband mercy for considering it.

The sock...I show no mercy!!

ouryve Sat 20-Apr-13 18:32:48

Burn it.

PistachioTruffle Sat 20-Apr-13 18:41:00

Eww! It needs to go, show it no mercy!

Floweryhat Sat 20-Apr-13 18:42:18

I thought this was going to be a Dobby thread <disappointed>

Do not lb that article at any downtrodden creatures. Cremation is too good for it.

shockers Sat 20-Apr-13 19:07:32

Is the other one as bad, or is this a lone sock?

fengirl1 Sat 20-Apr-13 19:21:23

You have to ask?! shock
