to think a marriage ending is not funny.

ExH and I have been separated for a couple of months, we have a DD(2).

Today when he picked DD up he told me that at a family meal last night his family were all mocking him and making 'humorous' digs at him about the separation and that when he objected to this he was told to "stop being so touchy".

The separation wasn't angry or messy, but it has not been easy for either of us of our DD. I am in half a mind of saying something to MIL tomorrow (when she drops DD off for ExH who will be at work), because I know that ExH has been having a hard time dealing with the separation and is on AntiDs and can do without insensitive crap like this.

Am I unreasonable in thinking that the end of a marriage is not something to laugh about?

No it's generally sad or just very necessary. Perhaps they thought that he would prefer a lighthearted approach rather than either ignoring the elephant in the room or expecting him to pour out his inner feelings. People don't always know what to say and often resort to ill advisef humour because they feel uncomfortable. I'd leave it for now.

Agree with numtum I think people are sometimes uncomfortable with things like this and make inappropriate jokes to deal with it instead of ignoring it or saying anything more serious.
I'd leave it for the time being bit take it up if it happens again, although speak to your exh first to make sure he's comfortable with this!

Thanks for replies, I'll leave it for now then. I can see your point. I just hope I would be more sensitive in a similar situation!!
