about the Texas explosion

Why is there no sympathy expressed for the victims of this disaster on here and FB (or is it just my FB?) unlike the Boston explosion? Surely it's just as terrible even though it was an accident not deliberate?

Of course its just as terrible, but I wouldn't start any type of thread about it or post anything on FB because I don't crave attention off the back of other peoples tragedies. Why would anyone who didn't know those involved post sympathies online other than to gain a few 'likes' from their friends?

Well I didn't post anything on FB for that very reason. I just wondered why other people did for Boston but not for Texas

I'm fed up hearing about the worlds tragedies. Most of the time it doesn't matter to us, why do we want to take on all these sad events and how do you decide which tragedy trumps all the others out there.

At the risk of sounding heartless I'm not sure why either were headline news over here. Similar tragedies happen all over the world every day yet we always seem to give much greater attention to American ones.

Both are very sad and I'm sorry for the families but I wish our news would cover stories more relevant to this country.

And also i think most people are capable of experiencing compassion in RL without feeling compelled to make a show of it on social media.

Because it was an accident. You can't post a lot on this story because it was an accident. There's a lot left unsaid on the Boston story so people can add their bits and thoughts to it.

I agree with other posts. There must be things going on in our country that's worth airing about?

Exactly what Missy said. I'm afraid I just can't bear the competitive posting and 'liking' of sympathy/empathy about events. It doesn't have to be posted to the world to validate feelings of shock and sorrow for the people involved. You can think it, you don't need everyone to know you're thinking it.

It also annoys me how we're supposed to know each individual US state- so the papers think that reporting that it happened in 'Texas' is enough. They don't assume we know each region of eg Iran, do they?

I don't think you need to know more than "Texas". Although that it's Waco is mildly, coincidentally, interesting.
