To think dd's class photos will look more dated in 20 years than mine?

Just got the proofs of dd's class photo. It is made up of photos of 3 or 4 kids in silly poses photo-shopped together to make one big panorama against a stark white background. AIBU to think this will look very dated very soon, whereas mine from 20+ years ago with rows of kids sitting and standing on benches aren't particularly dated now?

Plus at bloody 17 inches wide it will never fit in an album. My brothers and I and all our kids had a great time at Xmas looking through my mums album of school photos, trying to remember names and seeing the resemblances to our kids now, how are we supposed to store the bloody great things for the future?

YANBU!

the size of the picture put me off buying my daughters class photo like you say how can it go in an album, plus the price £18 for one pic i dont think so !

Seems to be the tempest fashion at the moment. Ours is still rolled up in a tube confused

Yama Tue 16-Apr-13 20:17:48

I didn't buy dd's for this very reason. I want to see faces not silly poses.

IndiansInTheLobby Tue 16-Apr-13 20:18:28

I am a teacher and hate them! I always end up with children sitting on me in some sort of forced pose! Yanbu!

thebody Tue 16-Apr-13 20:19:39

Yes I agree and don't buy it op.

What's wrong with the normal class of photo.

AmazingBouncingFerret Tue 16-Apr-13 20:20:08

I've yet to encounter this.

Fingers crossed I never do!

AnnoyingOrange Tue 16-Apr-13 20:20:26

I hate them and refuse to buy them

chaosisawayoflife Tue 16-Apr-13 20:26:50

You see, I hate it, but I will but it because it's my pfb's first year at school, and if I buy it this year I will probably buy it next year, and every year thereafter, and because I've bought her's I'll have to buy all of dd2's too. They really have us over a barrel. I may do a little survey in the playground and if others feel the same way I'll start a campaign to bring back old skool class photos!

chaosisawayoflife Tue 16-Apr-13 20:27:10

*buy

DesperatelySeekingSedatives Tue 16-Apr-13 20:28:02

DD has her class photo this week really hope her school dont have this set up for theirs!

EndoplasmicReticulum Tue 16-Apr-13 20:30:15

YANBU. Although my class photos from high school are obviously of the 80s. So much hair!

Presumably somebody must be buying them, otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere Tue 16-Apr-13 20:34:47

YANBU! I hate them, too, but bought them anyway.

chaime Tue 16-Apr-13 20:35:16

DS's school has them up in the Reception area and they are much admired by visitors, but parents don't seem to like them to buy for themselves from what I've heard

MyDarlingClementine Tue 16-Apr-13 20:37:18

Yes, this pissed me off also, in nursery - she didn't actually play with the people in her little group but others from the rest of the class, unfortunately we didn't get a photo of the whole class, just her group in a long long drawn out pose.

I loved her teachers but I don't want them on my wall!

Scholes34 Tue 16-Apr-13 21:39:22

Our primary did them for two years, then saw sense and reverted to the traditional ones.

SquirrelNuts Tue 16-Apr-13 22:53:35

Thats a shame i love looking at my class photos and trying usually failing to remember everyones names

pippibluestocking Tue 16-Apr-13 22:58:46

I loathe them, children look very forced, not unusual and quirky as the company (and school) seem to think, completely naff. Having said that, generally get nagged by DC into buying them for them to remember their classmates by. Agree that traditional style is timeless and much better

ReadytoOrderSir Tue 16-Apr-13 23:38:51

Another teacher here who hates them. I didn't buy my DC's when their school tried it for 2 years. They ahve since reverted to traditional ones.

Where I teach we not only have these group poses... but we have to have themed props with them too!

Startail Tue 16-Apr-13 23:41:23

YANBU
They are too big to put in my album, don't fit any standard frame and are totally useless.

MiaowTheCat Wed 17-Apr-13 08:00:59

I hate them (ex teacher and I hate all school photos involving me having to be on them) - I think one reason they've started doing this style is laziness. Has to be easier for the photographer to get a decent shot of 4-5 kids at a time than wrangle 30 into cooperation while ensuring the requirements for at least one to have eyes closed, one to look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards and one to be caught mid-talk to their neighbour are met.

BeyondIsBloodOfTheDragon Wed 17-Apr-13 08:40:22

I actually liked DSs playgroup one (he was right in the middle though grin )
But I didn't buy it cause it was just too long!

DukeSilver Wed 17-Apr-13 08:49:36

I don't see the problem with things looking dated really. It will be dated!
