if it's an epic / periodic/ fantasy movie or series. I keep thinking that words like Sht, Cnth, F*ck did not exist till the 60s.

Also, I imagine that sex was more tame than what they depict on GoT, The Tudors etc. ie. missionary style, no woman on top, or doggie. lol. ( Here I am imagining my nan throwing up on a bucket after sex. lol)

re: strong language, I think squeamishness about good old Anglo Saxon words like cunt, shit and fuck is very modern. They're just words.

Also, it is believed that the Kama Sutra dates from 400-200BC. Interesting sex wasn't invented in the Sixties!

But because that's the kind of irrational thought I have too.

The words fuck, shit and cunt (and piss) have been around for hundreds of years. Perhaps spelled differently, but definitely the same words, used in the same context.

Without photographic proof it's hard to know what sexual positions were used historically, but I doubt that what people do today has never been done before. Even dildos and condoms are not new. Revised and more effective, but not new.

I have no problem with swearing/'coarse language' provided it's in context. I don't like it being used for punctuation. :)

I think the problem is that people imagine everything before the 60s was like the 50s - but that was a deliberate return to women getting back to their pinnies to free up the jobs for men being demobbed, and to chastity/faithfulness again after the "laxity" that crept in during the war. After all, why worry about being faithful when you could all be dead tomorrow?

People have been shagging, in and out of wedlock, in a variety of positions since time began. And using all kinds of coarse words!

I loved reading an excerpt from Caterbury Tales where one woman keeps talking about offering her younger husband her "Quaint" frequently to keep him interested. It made no sense until I changed the pronunciation slightly

Fuck, cunt etc have been around well over a 1000 years as has every sexual position known to man (and they've been known to man for a long, long time going back to the cave ).

When Hamlet asks Ophelia if she is thinking of 'country matters' he absolutely means you to know he is spelling it c-u-n-t. The Elizabethans (and all before them) called it a cunt and that was that from queen to peasant. It was the Victorians brought in their squeamishness and turned cunt into the Word That Shall Not Be Used. Same with fuck, shit, wank, bollocks and anything else you can think of word-wise, as well as a prudery about sex.

As to sexual positions as Cogito says, you've obviously never seen any ancient Greek vases or seen the pictures above the doors in the Pompeii brothels which depict everything you could possibly think of, and then some, in quite eye-watering detail!!
