AIBU?

To think it's odd to tell someone that you are going to exchange their gift

I've had a couple of people thank me for a gift for their kid but say that they exchanged it because of blah blah. I wonder why they told me? I am not going to demand to see a picture of the child with the present.

They don't know that though, do they? Maybe they have relatives who demand pictures of all presents being used.

But some people do like a picture so maybe they are preparing you.

We were bought more snow suits than any baby could ever possibly need in a while lifetime never mind in the months of 3-6. We still have them in a pile as I can't bring myself to exchange a gift but they are now wasted.

I wouldn't tell the gift giver unless they seemed very keen to know of the item had been worn.

I sometimes tell people I have to swap something, but usually only MIL who often picks the wrong size for the kids. I tell her in case I can't get a straight exchange for a different size and have to choose something different. I worry that she'll ask about the item and think I swapped it because I didn't like her choice. It seems more polite to let her know than risk having to explain if put on the spot.

Oh god. That would be awful. I'd prefer no present than having to send a thank you card with a picture of the present being used.

I don't think its that bad? We got 2 identical money boxes for ds's naming day, and having checked they didn't mind we swapped one of them for something else from same range. Is that a wierd thing to do? Confused

If its older kids they might be worried that their kid will mention it first, to you or your dc, and think that it's better to get in there first to make it clear they didn't exchange it because they didn't like it.

I wouldn't mention it unless it was someone who buys for the child regularly and always buys the wrong size etc
