to want them to go shove their Avon catalogue(57 Posts)
At 9'o'clock tonight we got a knock on the door from a man asking for the Avon catalogue that was posted through our door.
(Junk that gets posted through gets put straight on the kindling pile for our log burner)
He was very pleasant and I was polite and said that sorry I couldn't find it, I did look but presumed the OH had chucked it.
We frequently get people knocking on our door (at least once a week) at all hours asking for the damn Avon catalogue back - if its that precious, stop posting it through the door.
We have never bought anything from Avon, and never will, and I'm sick of having to essentially babysit a brochure for them.
I don't really mind junk mail, as such, as - like I say - it just provides us with stuff to burn but I really hate people coming to the door (except the postman - he sometimes brings nice things!) not least because it makes the dog go mental and really distrupts the evening.
TBH, I know I'm being unreasonable by disliking it so much (and trust me, I'd never actually say anything to them) but am interested to see if it bothers anyone else.
Note: I am thinking of investing a "No junk mail" sign, though I doubt this will stop them...
Could you have told the man you don't want the Avon catalogue?
Get a no junk mail sign. The only people that can't read them are estate agents.
I always lob catalogues back on the step - not my fault if its early and it rains etc - but Avon, Betterware and the like are just people trying to earn a living. They have to pay for those catalogues.
Did you tell him you weren't interested and ask him not to give you another?
You can just leave it on your doorstep in a foodbag or something to protect from the weather.
just put the avon book back on the doorstep that is what i used to do with Avon/betterware/kleeneze <rolls eys> this was after i had said i didnt want them so i just put them back outside so whent hey came to collect it was either still there or not, wasn't my problem really
Once I had someone ask for their Avon catalogue back, I had no clue where it was and she told me I would have to pay for it then, I have never laughed so much in my life before I told her to fuck off.
All the Betterware, Kleeneze and the like that get shoved through my door now just get put back on the doorstep.
I was an Avon person for about three weeks (so one sales cycle in Avon land) and I found out that as an Avon bod you have to buy your catalogues, so if people chuck 'em, they're instantly costing you money, but that you couldn't really blame people for that - it's glossy, nicely manufactured junk mail for people who don't want to buy Avon stuff, why should they have to put it in a safe place til you come back for it? They didn't ask for it. Besides which, Avon has a WEBSITE. I do NOT understand the way some firms refuse to modernise.
I just put them straight back out on the doorstep and if I do see the person, I ask them not to post their books through again.
I wouldn't throw them away because I think it costs them money and to be fair, they're only trying to earn themselves a few quid.
I think the no junk mail sign is the way to go.
Oh, when I (briefly) had my Avon route, I spoke to people as I dropped off books, and those that weren't interested, I crossed off my list. You could put a note on the catalogue stating lack of interest. It saves them effort and the cost of a book.
I wouldnt throw them away the people do need to buy them and replace them my friend has an avon facebook page not that im on it but least she doesnt need to replace books
See, I used to do that with Betterware etc and they just left it there. I chuck it now, I'm afraid.....
You're right, 'no junk mail' signs don't work. You should try one that says,
Shove yer fuckin Avon catalogue
All the most genteel homes have them.
That's a really good idea purr, I hadn't thought of that.
I think I'll stick a little post-it note on any future books I get through my door.
Charity bags are great for dustbin liners.
I get the money thing, that's why I don't say anything. But if I leave it on the doorstep is stays there for days getting dirty and nasty and our step is really narrow so you have to step over it. I have asked several times for them to stop but the reps seem to change every few weeks and most don't listen.
Oh I know what you mean tunnocks. They say they will collect empty bags but they don't. We get at least 2 a week.
I'm an Avon rep, and would never knock on a door at 9pm! Are you sure you're getting them every week? Avon works on a 3 week sale cycle, so that would indicate you have 3 reps in your area, which really shouldn't be happening.
But to answer your last question - when I had a 'proper job' as a bank manager, receiving catalogues through the door never bothered me because I realised they were doing a job that they probably weren't wild about doing, to earn (literally) a few pounds a month. Just wrap the thing in an old carrier bag and leave it on your doorstep on the day they've asked you to. Then they won't have to disturb your evening.
Ive had them send just their children round. A group of boys that couldn't be any older than 10...
I always feel guilty but I've spent the best part of the year leaving it out for them and they still knock - I guess they don't see them
I think I'll stick a little post-it note on any future books I get through my door. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but make sure you put your address on the post it note! I've had people request this of me, but when I get home and I'm going through them, I have no idea who wrote it.
God, can't wait to get a proper job again.
I have a good friend that does Avon, so if I want anything I just ask her to order it for me. (On the rare occasion)
There are two people who do Avon around my area, both claim this is their 'patch'.
The first few times I got the books I stuck a note in saying 'no thank you I'm no interested, I order my Avon through a friend, please don't deliver any more books here' and I would leave the books on the step outside my porch.
Avon woman 1 refused to pick the book up and would knock anyway asking for my Avon order, no matter how many times I told her I wasn't interested she still continues to deliver books and knock to collect them.
If I ignore her and she will just come back another time.
Avon woman 2 demanded to know who I was ordering from, and told me that I wasn't allowed to place Avon orders through someone else as I was on her patch she has to handle my order, that's apparently in the Avon rules or some nonsense.
I'm sure you can guess where I told her to go.
In that case Horcrux, the Avon reps in your area are clearly not as professional as me . I go round on the day I say I will and always check the doorstep before knocking <prim emoticon>.
Ooh I really hate the Avon catalogue! You're so right - don't push it through the door if you think you should get it back! Eff off!!!
