AIBU?

To be put off going to gigs due to people filming it with their mobile phones?

It drives me mad. All of the green lights distracts from the visuals on stage. Why can't people just enjoy things as they happen? The quality of the recording on mobiles is always shit - unless you are right at the front. I could just be getting old and mobiles weren't around when I was in my yoof.

How did you work that one out?!

You have a choice:

Suck it up and carry on going to gigs

or

Stop going.

People are always going to do this. And they're entitled to do so (ticket/venue Ts and Cs permitting). By all means let yourself get worked up about it if it makes you feel better.

Sorry - fingers on small screen pressed every button...

I don't get why people go to gigs to see it through a lens.
Don't you miss out on getting into the atmosphere? Dancing/singing etc?

I've been to see my favorite musician three times and I never film it, but I will phone my friend and hold the phone up so she can enjoy him too. I don't see the issue with it myself.

It is as if people do things so they can show/tell other people about it. Why not just live in the moment? Must be a generational thing.

A gig's hardly a quiet, don't bother other people type place is it?! I think you're being a bit U, sorry. I don't like gigs because i'm too short to see anything, and get jostled around, but thats just what gigs are like! If you don't like it, don't go.

TobyLerone · 11/04/2013 16:50

But why is it wrong for them to want to show/tell other people about it?

I quite like the look of phone lights in big arenas, its the new thing to replace lighters held aloft and the bonus is that your phone will not get hot and burn your fingerGrin

I do wonder why people can pay good money to see a gig on a tiny tiny screen though Confused

I cant say I have ever noticed a green light at a concert!

i went off going to gigs years ago after they closed all the smaller venues and made everyone go to massive stadiums and arenas and then made you sit during the performance!

i always thought you weren't allowed to tape concerts/etc on phones? i wouldn't be able to enjoy a concert if i had to hold a phone up all the time to record it.

and agree with you op!

You're not the only one.

The gig I was at last night the lead singer told people to put their phones away too.

Where are you hedge? There's bound to be a small venue within travelling distance that you could go to. Not all bands can even fill stadiums, there'll be plenty of choice still.

I agree, there lights don't bother me but people holding their phones up does block your view. and it generally is against the rules anyway.

it's a bit sad people can't enjoy anything with out telling the world about it first

YANBU if you feel put off by it. YABU if you expect people to stop doing it.

I hate it. I'm not tall and it's not always easy for me to get any kind of a view, so when I finally find one and it's obscured by some idiot filming the gig, I'm very pissed off. I don't understand how people can be fully appreciating the concert when they are filming / photographng most of it. And although you may not have 'green lights', all phones light up and the light is distracting in a dark arena.

It happens everywhere this is a picture of the pope unveiling from 2005 and 2013.

I hate it, I'd rather enjoy the show than piss about with buttons trying to 'capture a special moment' which always turns out to be a fuzzy and bumpy picture with bloody awful screechy sound.

I've never been anywhere that says you are allowed to film, so why is it unreasonable to expect peopleto follow that? Confused

OP, I am in total agreement! It's not only rude to people in the audience, artists hate it, as several links on this thread attest to.
