to not "get" dip dyed hair?

Just really annoyed someone because I asked if she was growing out her blonde highlights only to receive a filthy look and be told that she had had her hair dip dyed.

It apparently cost a fortune but it really does look like she is growing out her old colour and needs a trim! It looks awful!

AIBU?

Sorry, rogue inverted commas there!

Callisto Thu 11-Apr-13 11:23:46

Think it looks bloody stupid myself, and just like the person is growing out their hair.

WetWeekend Thu 11-Apr-13 11:24:43

YANBU to not 'get' it & not to like it. YABU & a bit rude to comment on her hair. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all...

I suppose how it looks varies from person to person. I have dark curly hair and would love to dip dye mine a deep red or blue colour.

i kind of link it, but only on certain people, generally young people with lots of hair grin

link it?? like it

the world is full of fashion victims!

best never to comment on change of hairstyles, I find.

Hulababy Thu 11-Apr-13 11:27:13

I think it only works if it is a big contrast to their natural hair colour. And generally only on preteens and tees.

I agree. YANBU. I noticed some of the normally beautifully styled mums at school sporting this look and thought they must have decided to grow their roots out then realised they must have done this. Whilst some people can pull off the 'growing out look', people who otherwise go for a very polished look can't. I am such a scruff I probably could, which is great news and means that in a few months I will look bang on trend grin

I'm with you Bogeyface. I haven't seen one example where it hasn't looked like it was growing out hair colour.

I like it. There are heaps of good examples on pintrest.

StanleyLambchop Thu 11-Apr-13 11:30:54

I can't be arsed to get my roots done so I have inadvertantly ended up with this style. It has saved me a fortune, and for once I am on trend. So YABU to not like it IMO.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Thu 11-Apr-13 11:31:20

Yes, it does look like hair is 'growing out'. I pay a fortune NOT to look like this but, different strokes for different folks...

It doesn't even look good on the adverts... and all the camera trickery in the world can't hide that fact. confused

bigTillyMint Thu 11-Apr-13 11:32:20

Its a cheap (spray from Superdrug) teen thing where I live!

yaimee Thu 11-Apr-13 11:33:43

I really don't like it. I also feel that it was invented by evening hairdressers because they needed a style that people couldn't recreate at home!
But other than 'your hair looks really nice' I wouldn't say anything about anyones hair!

MooMooSkit Thu 11-Apr-13 11:34:52

I don't like it when it's two natural colours, it looks like it's growing out i agree. I do like it when it's bright reds/blues at the bottom, especially black and red or dark brown and red always looks good!

yaimee Thu 11-Apr-13 11:35:40

scheming hairdressers rather than evening hairdressers. I have nothing against hairdressers who work on a night!

Bogeyface Thu 11-Apr-13 11:40:58

WetWeekend I wasnt being rude! I just asked if she was growing out her old colour. She had asked if I had coloured my hair again (I have) and it went from there.

Bogeyface Thu 11-Apr-13 11:42:18

Actually, the un-natural colours do look ok, I like black with purple! But this was natural brown with blonde ends and it really does look like she is just growing out her old colour!

I don't get it eitherconfused

There was a fashion a while ago for 'chipped' nail polish. I couldn't fathom that out either.

Bogeyface Thu 11-Apr-13 11:52:35

I quite liked the crackle glaze nail varnish, but mainly for the fun of using it rather than how it looked!

I really like it! Looks interesting and sophisticated. Better than the usual highlights you see everywhere. But perhaps I have only noticed it when done well.
