To think sometimes we should just all bother to help a fellow man/woman?

Tonight I was delayed coming home from work because people were gawping at an accident on the other carriageway.

When I eventually got through that traffic I was probably about 2 minutes away from home when a lorry had taken a wrong turn and realised he couldn't get under the bridge.

It's a tiny country lane, trees either side, the bridge is on a bend, there was literally nowhere for him to go except to reverse back to the other bend in the road, which wasn't very far (unless you're driving a ridiculously long lorry I guess).

Did anyone get out to help him? Ask if he needed assistance? No. Everyone is in such a rush to get home (albeit he was blocking the traffic anyway) that nobody can be arsed helping someone else.

I had to go up to every car in his way and tell them where to reverse to, move my own car further round the bend and then wait for him to reverse, in between the traffic coming from under the bridge the other way.

One man came out of his house to help. Not ONE SINGLE PERSON got out of their cars.

This evening I am just baffled by peoples constant thoughts for only themselves, they were not getting to their destinations any quicker because he was in the bloody way but everyone just sat in their cars!

Is it too much to ask that sometimes we all just ask if someone needs a bit of help?

I wonder if Dave Gorman should bring back his Join Me campaign where people did good deeds on Fridays

After being stuck at the back of a packed carriage on the central line, with my pushchair, and hearing the tube driver have to beg any passenger to help a blind man onto the train and to a seat. No it doesn't surprise me at all.

Varies around the country?
I stopped a lady the other day to point out something was about to fall out of her bag. I think she thought I was a loon!
Often stop people who have/whose kids in pushchair have dropped something. I hope what goes around comes around. Sometimes small kindnesses can make a difference to someone's day. I hope!

While I agree it's nice to be helpful and the world would benefit from more helpful people, I'm not sure I'd have known what I could do to help in the situation you describe, so I'd have probably just sat in my car too.
