to worry about taking too many pictures of kids... even if it's funny.

This did make me laugh ALOT:

But then I wondered what's going to happen to this generation's sense of self as a result of us taking photos of them constantly... even when crying? Doesn't it encourage them to be bad, to get attention? Doesn't it make them feel like they are just a figure of fun?

Am i taking it too seriously? Probably yes!

I'm not sure about this one. Tbh, I'd bloody hate growing up and finding out that my toddler tantrums, far from being 'funny' stories parents tell, were on the internet for all to see. But maybe I'm just naturally indignant smile

I agree with Pilfette Anecdotally, my parents ruined family holidays by taking pictures. You couldn't look at something, do something, have fun without a camera being whipped out. I hate having my photo taken though!

I would never make my children's faces open to the public. YANBU. Our internet history will all come back and bite us if we are not careful.

YABU. I love that site. Its hilarious. It makes me feel good that someone else is going through what I am. Even people I know that have no kids think its funny. I don't think it's harmful to the kid, he will certainly be embarrassed when he's older but as long as the parents know when it's time to stop then I think it's fine.

Haha! Crack up!

I thought it was a bit of a shame to take pics when he was crying and post them online. Seems a bit....unsympathetic. I try really hard not to laugh at dd's dramatic outbursts, I can't imagine how' she would feel if I photographed them.

But I did still chuckle at that site, especially the giraffe costume.

i did have a guilty chuckle at some of the comments I am afraid!

I am reading alot of parental love there, but maybe just keep the one page of photos huh?

GaryBuseysTeeth Tue 09-Apr-13 14:03:57

grin I agree with Pilfette

Taking the child's future feelings out of it, I would hate for someone to google my DS in 20 years & find a million pictures of him in his nappy.
How will that look all over the tabloids, when he's President of the Universe?

God I did not find these funny at all.
Just wanted to shout at the parents to give their overwrought child a hug. As for his feelings when he is grown up, well when we look at photos they help us to remember. Usually happy days out. But what will that little boys memories be? That he was a silly windgy (?sp) cry baby as his parents seem to ridicule?? Not nice.

" I would never make my children's faces open to the public. " do you put a mask on them every time you take them to the shops / park / etc then neomaxi

I do agree though that some thought should be given to how many/ which pictures are put on the internet on the basis that you can't necessarily control what happens with them.

I agree though with buttface that I think taking too many pictures can modify how people behave, view themselves. I used to visit a friends house and every wall was covered in countless pictures of my friend and her sisters. I used to be a bit envious as my parents only had a few. but now all my friend and her sisters do on nights out is pose for pictures and then post them on facebook. you simply cannot go more than a few minutes without them snapping themselves /each other. whenever they are not posing they are sorting out their hair / make up ready for the next picture. weird. and boring.

I think that tumblr is really funny. There is no name attached to it so it seems to be anonymous. Some of the reasons ring so true.
