Am watching Rock Of Ages blush

Knock some sense into me grin

KatyTheCleaningLady Tue 07-May-13 18:10:00

I was trying to explain my thing to my friend and I said. "I'm not sure if I want to fuck him or poke him with a stick."

While Tom walks this earth, (or hovers or slithers, or whatever aliens do) the thread will live Katy,

<bows head reverently>

He was on some sleb gossip thing on telly the other night and I just thought of this thread and snorted out loud all over again. And then had great difficulty explaining why.

KatyTheCleaningLady Tue 07-May-13 07:46:58

The thread lives! I am now comfortable with my fascination with TC. That's fascination, not infatuation.

NotTreadingGrapes Tue 07-May-13 06:08:36

Then you are in the right place Munchkin!

We do have a few Becker-fanciers in the mix on this thread. grin

I quite fancy Doc Martin, cos I love a grumpy old bastard, but not sure about MC himself....

Mummytoamunchkin Mon 06-May-13 23:56:21

I've just watched Jack Reacher followed by Rock of Ages and Tom Cruise has awakened a longing in my groins I thought had disappeared 20 years ago. I also have the embarrassing memory of fancying Boris Becker and Martin Clunes

That is going to be my new Quote of the Week.

freddiefrog Wed 17-Apr-13 17:36:54

Sorry, I don't think there are enough snake codpieces or leather trousers in the world to erase the memory of that stache <shudder>

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 17-Apr-13 15:23:03

Dead one from ER. And not entirely uncoincidentally Goose from TG. grin

EldritchCleavage Wed 17-Apr-13 15:20:30

Who is Dr. Green?
(I need a High Court judge emoticon, clearly).

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 17-Apr-13 15:01:29

Noooooo Freddie. Go back and look at the snakebelt one again!

That marine looks like Dr Green though.

Psssst, don't go back to the funeral thread, they're chucking the buns at each other now. grin

freddiefrog Wed 17-Apr-13 14:32:48

Oh god, that stache has done the business, I've seen the light! I am over my affliction!

EldritchCleavage Wed 17-Apr-13 14:23:41

Ha ha ha!
That's more Polish plumber than handsome Marine commando, though, NTG!

This is more like it. Bonny lad. Hope his folks are proud of him.

NotTreadingGrapes Wed 17-Apr-13 13:04:14

For Eldritch

NotTreadingGrapes Mon 15-Apr-13 12:04:11

Top Gun theme/Harold Faltermeyer just shuffled itself on my ipod.

T'is a Tomspiracy clearly.

Am now replaying in head Val Kilmer saying he wants Tom as his wingman. Don't we all Val, don't we all. grin

freddiefrog Mon 15-Apr-13 10:16:25

I can't really remember it, not seen it for years

He didn't do anything for me way back when so hopefully normal non-fancying service will resume

KatyTheCleaningLady Mon 15-Apr-13 09:57:47

I think Cocktail was the reason I couldn't stand him for years. I was mostly bemused on the Risky Business and Top Gun mania, but Cocktail was when I decided he was a ridiculous twit.

And I stayed in that camp for a long, long time.

freddiefrog Mon 15-Apr-13 09:48:23

I still would blush

Cocktail was on last night, I've recorded it for covert viewing next time DH is out, I need to know if I've been completely turned grin

NotTreadingGrapes Mon 15-Apr-13 09:07:38

That look on his face right at the beginning was creeeeeepy.

But yes. I still would. Even dangling from a pole.

There is a dad at dd's school who does a gymnastic form of pole dancing (it's called flag man here) and he's a teeny as well.

KatyTheCleaningLady Mon 15-Apr-13 08:02:26

I had to resurrect this thread because I just found a scene that was cut from the movie/only available on the Blue Ray edition.

Ladies, I give you....

Tom Cruise pole dancing:

EldritchCleavage Sat 13-Apr-13 20:51:54

Heh heh, I perved all over Tyrese Gibson last night in Death Race while DH slept. Blimey, the shite I watch just to get some eye candy.

TC needs more evil guy roles, and in better films than he's chosen of late.

KatyTheCleaningLady Sat 13-Apr-13 11:03:22

So, I was talking to my husband last night about this thread and how a bunch of us have suddenly, against our wills, become Tom Cruise fanciers.

For me, back when he was doing Top Gun, I really didn't get it. I just thought he wasn't really that handsome. More importantly, I was not into clean cut alpha males. It seemed like all his movies were about some cocky young jock with a skill and he had to out bro a bunch more other cocky young guys to be the very best Top Cocktail-Pouring Race Car Driver, and get the girl.

I rolled my eyes.

And dated guys with long hair and tattoos. wink

Somehow, he's aged past all that - and aged very well - and has caught my attention.

But when he did long hair and tattoos (which frightened and repulsed me at first), and did it with such conviction, I was totally won over. He really nailed that role. A lot of actors would have giggled and gurned through the role of Jaxx, but he did it with something more like sincerity, and was very convincing as a ludicrous Rock God figure. Ridiculous, but still hot.

So, yeah. I hope he continues to do some of these odd surprising roles. But he still needs to take his shirt off frequently.

(am outsider, me, though I like a good mass grin) (which is as well seeing as it's always me who has to go with dd as dp, hardened papist that he is, always seems to be inexplicably busy on Sunday)

Gah, she's just told me she fancies the bride of Christ look.

KatyTheCleaningLady Sat 13-Apr-13 09:46:42

Oh, Tom Cruise and Catholicism go together just fine. He's married loads of Catholics.

NotTreadingGrapes Sat 13-Apr-13 09:31:17

I wouldn't want an 18 stone blonde on top of me.

In my dreams Tom Cruise reaches down and kisses the top of my head anyway.

Obviously he must be swinging from the light fittings at the time but hey, that's no bad thing.

I am looking for holy effing communion dresses that will not make dd look like a bride of Christ and this thread is going to keep me sane I feel.

(though I do feel a bit squalid saying holy communion on the same thread as the snake belt thingy)

KatyTheCleaningLady Sat 13-Apr-13 09:28:32

He's been in a string of losers in which he's clearly the best thing about the movie, but can't save the movie just on the power of his performance.

I don't know why Knight and Day was slated so badly, as I thought he was charming and funny in it.

With Jack Reacher, I think the audiences who would be interested in watching a tough guy kick ass are all Lee Child readers and they could not get past the fact that Tom Cruise is NOT a 6'5" 18 stone blond with pectoral muscles that can stop bullets. I mean, the reaction to the casting was very poor and I don't think people were willing to give it a chance. However, once you get past the fact that Tom Cruise is too short, it's actually very good. He's quite good and the plot is good.
