I feel cheated that I missed out on what sounded like a good haunted house story after it met an untimely demise in the form of a MNHQ exorcism.

I'm firmly on the fence when it comes to things that go bump in the night but do like hearing others tales (and have been known to leave the lights turned on at night when I'm home alone).

Here's mine:

I worked in a very big, very old building. I could take a short cut from a side road by going in through the old basement part of the building via two doors operated by a key code (one into the building and one into the main office part of the building). The basement was only used for storage. Anyway I was running late one day so decided to use the short cut. I went into the basement and was just entering the code to go into the office part of the building when I was aware of a suited man standing beside me. I turned to hold the door open for him and he had vanished. I assumed he was either somebody accessing the storage or had followed me in from the street (I realised I hadn't shut the door to the road correctly as it wasn't clicking shut).

I was a bit spooked, and mentioned it to a colleague who told me the basement was haunted by a man wearing a suit. I thought it was a wind up but she told me to ask the building caretaker/handyman. I called right away so she couldn't tip him off (and also to say that the door to the road wasn't locking shut again when pushed to). I casually threw in "I hear the basement is haunted" and he replied without promoting that there was a man in a suit whose description matched the person I saw exactly ...

I still think it is possible that somebody followed me in and thought better of it and darted out again but I never used that shortcut again!

OK.

I once went to a bar in Chicago and ordered a woo-woo. It was bright red and very sweet. I didn't really like it, so the next drink I ordered was a cosmopolitan.
