I wouldn't, I'd prefer the sound of a game to that of a gripey child, the poor parent will probably be at the end of their tether too.

Go on ask!!!

Ask and then come back and tell us whether they told you to fuck off or not grin

Depends how loud it is. As loud as a screaming child? Ask them to turn it down? Is the cafe very quiet other than that?

I understand that these games keep children quiet but they can be played on silent. No need for the noise.

Do it! They can still enjoy it on silent. I do

I don't know, I'm on the fence with this...You are in a cafe, not a library. Would you tell a grown up to turn down their phone conversation? (I might if I weren't scared of the look of them)

YouTheCat Thu 04-Apr-13 18:05:04

If the person with the child hasn't already turned it down and considered the other people in the café (like most people would) then the chances are that they will take a huff at being asked to turn the sound off/down.

You can but try.

AnnaRack Thu 04-Apr-13 18:06:46

Ask politely if they could turn the sound down a bit. If no joy, have a word with the staff?

YANBU to be annoyed. I wouldn't ask though, I'd just tut under my breath. If my children are placated with screens in public places I make them turn the sound off.

ParadiseChick Thu 04-Apr-13 18:38:12

Yanbu.

On holiday last year I asked a couple to turn the volume down on their laptop when we were out for dinner. peppa pig in German at full blast is not the background noise I want!

Shutupanddrive Thu 04-Apr-13 19:23:09

I would ask to turn it down rather than off

I haven't been to a cafe for a few years and now I don't want to.

digerd Thu 04-Apr-13 19:29:32

Anyone saving seats for people who are not there yet and others wanting them? Or have several shopping bags on the seats?
Love those!

LynetteScavo Thu 04-Apr-13 19:29:41

YABU to not fully utilise the etiquette topic.
