Were going on a picnic with the inlaws, mil insits on using half a tub of butter in each sandwich, i've made some without as i dont fancy dining on butter buttys,
i was given the death stare for refusing to join her in her butter gang.

I now know why dp hates the stuff with a passion! Butter is not the main thing of a sandwich i want to taste, im not wrong am i?

It's all down to personal taste, isn't it? I agree with you, I find the taste of butter very strong and I never put it on sandwiches. I rarely buy shop-made sandwiches because the taste of butter overwhelms me.

But others will complain sandwiches are dry without it, even when they have mayo or chutney etc in there too. My pet hate? Tuna mayo with butter!

So to me, YANBU.

YANBU.

I loathe the taste of butter and cannot eat sandwiches plastered with the stuff.

YUK.

Are you now going to drip feed a long back story of MIL grievances?

Butter slathered on fresh crusty bread = manna from heaven

Butter slathered in sandwiches (especially those with fillings containing other fats eg mayo) = boak

I would vomit - I hate butter/margerine/any kind of spread with a passion and DD (10 mo) seems to have inherited my dislike of it (she cries if you try to feed her anything with butter on).

YANBU. I can't stand sandwiches with butter or margarine on them. DS is the same too.

Butter should be spread on, spread off, just to moisten the bread.

Unless its toast or muffins in which case it should be slathered on to soak in.

OP I am with you. When I butter sandwiches, I butter one side...thinly and then add ham or whatever. Both my Mum and my best mate slap it on as though it's a life saving manna.

Thick butter is disgusting!

My mater made her DD a sandwich of bacon...she rammed about 2 inches of butter on...then tomato sauce and the cut up bacon. It honestly looked like a scab when the DD peeled off the lid to pick the bacon out.

You're right, OP, it's not. It's an adhesive, useful for holding in sandwich fillings that don't have their own moisture.

If it comes in a tub it's not butter and your MIL is being unreasonable for forcing nasty, fake fats on people. I wouldn't like margarine anywhere near my sandwich, but I don't object to butter if it needs it. I think most fillings don't though.

I would never put butter on a sandwich - slimy and revolting!

I have only progressed to the tiniest amount of mayonnaise being permitted

neomaxi you should get your mate to meet my mil, theyd get on really well together!

That though is the biggest sin i can think of, its bad enough, inch thick butter but its even worse when its covered in equal amounts of jam or tomato sauce.... vile!

YANBU - butter/margarine etc, all gross and unnecessary extra fat. Yuck.

VIX my MIL should join the gang too...she keeps butter in the fridge and then SLICES it like cheese to pop on her sandwich!

What type of butter comes in a tub?
Is it some horrible marge? Gross!
Then again, her sandwiches, her fillings...

YABU - whilst a sandwich with only butter in it is not a sanwich,(it's a bit of bread and butter) sandwiches without butter are pretty tasteless unless you substitute mayo or something similar. Fresh crusty bread with butter is gorgeous.

But, I also agree if it comes from a tub it isn't butter.

And ime shop bought sarnies don't have butter in them - I wish they did because I don't really like mayo.

DD would say YABU. When asked what she wants on her sandwiches she always replies with 'butter'. It takes a huge amount of haggling for me to be allowed to add any other filling! In fact her biggest gripe about subway is that they don't have any butter, but they add cheese so she forgives them.

Spreadable butter comes in a tub doesn't it? Confused

Butter is yummy. Mayo is shit.

How is a child young enough to have their sandwiches made for them old enough to eat at Subway? Isn't that drunk people's food?
