I mean - it was only three days ago that I emptied an old campaign chest - which has been closed for a good year or more.

You can buy clothes moth 'catchers' which might put your mind at rest. Any decent jumpers you can put in the freezer to stop the larvae hatching as it's the larvae that eat the wool. Are you sure it was a clothes moth though?

Oh I have catchers - they're only as good as they are, though. And yes - it was a clothes moth.

I thank you for the tip about jumpers but how do you put a carpet in the freezer?

Be worried! I lived in an old rented flat and it was completely infested. Nothing we could do to save our clothes ( though we tried everything). Once we moved out we managed to eradicate. One thing I did was to to store rugs and clothes in those vacuum pack bags with the special moth papers for a good 6 months after we left to prevent bringing into the new house. Also, put the hanging sticky pads everywhere- they catch the male moths so they can't reproduce and lay eggs. It is the larvae that eat your clothes. Check darks places too. Might be worth spraying the chest with a moth killer spray also. Hope you get rid of them!

HELP!!!!! I am moving from a home that is infested with moths to a new apt.....I have a long-haired cat that has been living in home for years that i am taking with me....Can pets be carriers of moth larve....should I be concerned about this.....?
