AIBU?

to have picked the 'Little Lady' badge off the front of my daughter's sleepsuit?

She's 7 weeks old, she's a baby not a 'little lady'. There'll be enough expectations about 'ladylike' behaviour once she grows up a bit.

Apart from anything they have halved their potential market with this badge, because the sleepsuit colours are blue, brown and red which seems to be deemed appropriate for boys too.

Meh. Dd was shoved in any sleepsuit at that age and I had neither the time.or inclination to pick it off.

Id also have shoved that sleepsuit on a ds too, with or without label.

I doubt the baby can read it but pick it off if it makes you happy. Why did you buy it in the first place though?

Yanbu. I hate this mad rush to push gender assigned clothing on a baby when they've only just popped out. Do the parents who buy all pink/blue for dc1 really rush to the shops for new baby grows when dc2 comes along with different bits?

When my dc were 7weeks old the last thing I cared about is some stitching on a sleepsuit..

selsigfach - maybe they like it?

Gosh, with a 7 week old baby I admire your thought processes.

I was always too freakin tired to even notice what they wore in what colour or logo.

so long as it is clean.....what does it matter?

she'll soon be eating worms and all kinds of unladylike behaviour (but totally childlike behaviour)

YANBU, if nothing else a badge like that on a small baby is very crass and reeks of chav.

I doubt OP bought the sleepsuit - gift, right, OP?

I would find 'little lady' both naff and unfeminist so prob would have sent it to the charity shop, unless it was easy to remove in which case I'd have done the same.

Thank goodness it didn't read 'Daddy's gorgeous little princess' - you'd have been there all day...

Omg really? Life is too short for this kind of stuff to cross my mind.

Im so very glad Im not in your head OP.

I was far to busy being head over heels in love with my very lovely new baby withiut pointless stuff like that entering my head.

But then, I get the feeling you did it, postef on here to earn some sort of feminist kudos.

Either, or, its a bit weird. Confused

I'm not sure why you're bothered tbh. I wouldn't like it, tbh I'm not keen on any logo on childrens clothing but she cant read yet can she? You make it sound like you're one of those mums who cares about what their baby is dressed in and what other people's opinion might be when out and about . I also find your post a bit odd because you mention the colours of the sleepsuit as 'deemed suitable for boys'. Do you really give such ideas the time of day? I bunged my dd and ds in whatever came to hand, and frankly was grateful for any gifts or hand me downs because after paying the mortgage and nursery fees, having to buy loads of baby clothes which they grow out of in minutes was way down my list of priorities

If you are going to this wound up over a 'Little Lady' badge the next 16 or so years will not be enjoyable. Relax.

Seriously, sleepsuit sounds a bit chav, but she's sleeping in it and cant read, so not Likely to cause her to ponder the deeper meanings and question the role of gender in stereotyping. She will be too big for it in about 2 weeks, so why are you so worried?

Blimey, I seriously couldn't be arsed. I wouldn't care if dd2 was sleeping in babygros with pictures of dead dogs on as long as they were warm, clean and a good fit.

I don't think I would have cared.

Well done. You must really love your baby, I'm sure she is much happier now the badge is removed.
What an odd thing to be worrying about when you have a 7 week old baby.

YANBU, someone gave my (then 1yr) DD some trousers with 'you wish' written down the side. I thought the connotations were inappropriate for a child and picked the 'you' off them. I'd have thrown them in the bin but they were really comfy and perfect for muddy adventures in the garden!

porridge you're quite right, each to their own. It's just not for me.

"Sleepsuit sounds a bit chav"

What?! Really, what?!

Were your 7 week old babies in suits then?

Sleepsuits chav?!

Good for you OP. At 7 weeks, the last thing you want is to be looking at your gorgeous little babe and thinking "god I hate that stupid badge" and getting depressed about all the crap in the world. Takes 2 mins to remove it, so dunno why so many comments about how much effort it was?

Report
thezebrawearspurple · 30/03/2013 11:31

yabu, as long as is comfy, it could say puppy eater for all your baby cares.
