I was working away in the back of the house when I check my work emails. the email says... Next delivery courier has delivered to the front of your house. our house fronts onto a busy main road, so not wanting it to be nicked I rushed towards door.... only to find delivery package in middle of front room rug. We have a small terraced house, so i'm freaked out that I didn't notice he had entered.
AIBU to think random people shouldn't enter the house? (would usually be locked but DH had left it unlocked on way to work, grrr).

Secondly and now this is MORE annoying. I ordered a tankini from next maternity sale. I clearly checked that it said 'tankini' and not 'tankini bottoms, or tankini top.' it is just the top. maybe I am being unreasonable and a tankini is the top part only? its annoying as now I will have to buy a separate bottoms!

sorry, I know this is trivial in the great scheme of things!

YANBU

Particularly as regards the tankini. Largely because I did exactly the same thing myself and stood there thinking "where is the rest of it????!"

whispers - do you think everyone else knows a tankini is just the top bit and we are the loons?

did you complain?

You have a front door that can be opened from the outside?

Change it now!

Someone entered your house unlawfully and you're more concerned about the tankini?

Yanbu

Next have gone rapidly downhill with their delivery service imo.

That would freak me out. I've had them open the door and put it on the doormat. Which I'm sort of ok with, have another internal door to the main part of house.

riskit4abiskit · 28/03/2013 14:25

I'm normally very obsessive about keeping it locked, oh doesn't always remember because his last house was one that you couldn't open it from the outside.

Well I am treating it as a good warning to always check in future.

Phoned next about tankini and they were very unhelpful and said all bathing wear was sold as separates. This was not made clear on website. Grrr.

I too have done the half order in the sale. Thought it was an entire bikin, but no, just the top. Am wise to it now.

Yikes! That's a bit creepy. Did you ask him why he came into the house?

If its the mink one I have bottoms and the top was too big... the top is now out of stock....

riskit4abiskit · 28/03/2013 15:14

mine is a dark purpley paisley so im hoping to get some plain black bottoms from somewhere like primark now. cant believe the top on its own was £22! it was on sale for about £7 but I thought for that original price you would get bottoms too. my whole piece swimming costume only cost about the same.

I didn't see the courier tailtwister, he was gone before I saw the email. unless he's still here.......

A local delivery man once opened my door and popped my order into the hall.

My doorbell probably wasn't working though, it's temperamental shit

Not quite as Shock as your case though; I take a lot of stuff in for him as most people in our (quiet) road are out at work. So we are "familiar faces". And he didn't come in the house, that's really Shock. He (your delivery man) could have called out through the door.

Tankini thing's really annoying. They should say.

I think YABabitU about the delivery. I understand the shock, but it wasn't ill meant (and it wasn't unlawful), and it got your package delivered. What is the bad thing about someone delivering a package like that? They haven't done anything that makes you worse off. If they'd seen the door could open, looked in or entered, but turned away without delivering, wouldn't you be annoyed that they didn't bother to actually do their job? I suspect it isn't the parcel delivery that's the problem, it's that the door was unlocked and the parcel delivery made you realize how vulnerable that makes you feel.

I could see it going: Ring the bell, no response. Knock on the door, no response but the door moves slightly. Push the door and call out, no response. Step in while calling out, no response. Start to feel guilty and possibly a bit vulnerable for being in some stranger's house without them there so put package down where it will definitely be seen and leave sharpish (hopefull pulling the door to properly).

I would never in a million years have thought a tankini would be just the top so YANBU there!

You are also being unreasonable about Next.

A quick check of their tankinis and on each page, it has the top AND the bottom, to order separately.
Because the sizes can be different...

Now, regarding the delivery man, I'd have expected him to show up with no shirt and drinking diet coke. But maybe that's just me. :)

Unless it was the Adidas or Elle ones.

EmmelineGoulden · 28/03/2013 19:02

Lueji it's not clear on the clearence pages. They do have a few tankini bottoms towards the end of the page, but the tankini tops do not say "tops" and you could order one without seeing there are some "bottoms" available.

So it is legal to enter someone's house just because the door is open? Surely that is trespass and illegal?

Report
Lueji · 28/03/2013 19:14

Yes, Emmeline, but they don't show the bottoms on clearance, do they?

In the summer when I am sunbathing in the back my mailperson will regularly pop parcels in through the kitchen window onto the kitchen side (avoiding the sink and kind of pushing them out of reach), this necessitates them balancing on the garden bank slope.
I once came home from work to find a huge DPD to be signed for parcel in the middle of the living room floor. I'd left the back door unlocked as there was a teen at home who was supposed to get up before midday to answer the door

also did not know that tankini is just the top

bamboo tresspass is not criminal. You can sue someone for trespass in certain circumstances. But tresspass itself in the general case isn't illegal.

Lueji You mean in the photos of tankini tops they don't show the bottoms? If so, not really, though you can see a bit of them in some photos. But it wouldn't occur to me that they just meant the tops if they didn't say it. I think of a tankini as a set - top and bottom. It's a good idea to have them seperate for the size thing - genius now I think about it, especially for maternity. But I've never bought a bikini or tankini seperately so I think they should be clearer. I don't think I would have noticed that the bottoms weren't shown, I would have been caught out to.

Do you have a letter box ? If you do, I don't get why s/he didn't just post it ? That's what my next man does, unless you'd ordered other stuff.
I would never guess that tanki just ment the top bit either. Ordering stuff in the sale from next, is difficult though, as you don't get the entire description and I bet the picture included the bottoms. Very easily done.
I would go mad at next about someone entering your home.

My postie came round the back one day, opened the door and left the parcel on the table. I was out but had forgotten to lock the back door.

It freaked me out at the time as we had not long moved in, but wouldn't now - our postie is actually great and goes out of his way to ensure we get our mail.

Thanks for the replies. Had several items so couldn't fit through letterbox.

Agree iambu about the delivery man whoever said it made me feel vulnerable hit the nail on the head.

Don't dare try the bastard tankini on now in case it doesn't fit ( but will do obviously)

I would complain about the delivery driver coming into your house. I would hate for anyone to just let themselves into my house like that. But it seems I'm in the minority!
